Refreezing food question

Taystee · 25/09/2014 20:16

I cooked a pork shoulder the other day and due to unforseen circumstances(!) we were unable to eat it so chucked it straight in the freezer. I'm now using it to make a chilli... Would it be ok to freeze the leftovers? I know you're not supposed to defrost and refreeze meat but is that only when it's raw?
Thanks

No, you can't freeze food that has been cooked twice. But it will be fine in the fridge for a day or two of leftovers.

Personally, if it has been thoroughly cooked, I would certainly be quite happy to freeze again. I have done so on many occasions with all sorts of meats including chicken and pork.

I do.

It's a huge chilli, been cooked for 8 hours in slow cooker. Doubt we could eat it all in two days. I wouldn't previously have given this a second thought but I'm a bit nervous about what I feed my one year old...

I would freeze it without a second thought. I would probably eat it later with re-heated rice even!
