Bonfire Night Buffet

As if I haven't got enough going on at the moment, DH and I thought it would be good to have friends around after bonfire event in our local town early Nov! We've said we'll do food (and some drink) if they can 'bring a bottle'
There are 12 adults & six kids (age range 11 - 2).

We haven't got loads of spare cash, so would love to hear you ideas for buffet Smile

I don't want to miss the bonfire (it's always amazing) so would prefer cold buffet - although will make homemade pizzas to stick in the oven through out the night.

Inspire me MNetter's !!

What about Beef Goulash? You could do it in a slow cooker and serve with crusty bread in bowls?

Or a big dish of chilli again with bread which cuts out gaffing about with rice etc?

In my experience children tend to just love hot dogs which don't take long to cook

Thanks Jolly!
I had thought about hot dogs for kids Smile easy option!

Beef Goulash is a great idea... will dig out my slow cooker. It's almost that time of year

Bonfire night food: home made veggie soup, baked potatoes with a couple of toppings (nothing too elaborate), bonfire toffee. 'Tis tradition!

One of my most successful parties was... sausage sandwiches! It was really last minute and we had a bit of a crowd to feed. We just got different sausages - so bangers, g -f, quorn etc. And some different breads and rolls. Also bought a load of onions, and butter, ketchup, mustards etc. Cooked the onions, ovened the sausages in batches, and left people to assemble as they wished. There was quite a lot of booze too, that may be why it was so popular.

I am concerned that we'll be out the house for a while for bonfire & fireworks...not sure about keeping food warm. Could make soup to reheat for adults!

Sausage sarnies sound good though, I could keep sausages warm! x

Keep sausages warm in slow cooker.
Put jacket pots in oven as you leave

Jamaican cake and custard

I'd do chilli in a slow cooker, served with cornbread or tortilla chips rather than rice and with a couple of nice toppings (guacamole, sour cream, grated cheese).

Heston Blumenthal has a recipe online for chilli butter, you can make an incredibly mild chilli and everyone can add spicy butter to their own taste.

Great tips! Thanks all Smile
