Well the meat part is sausage meat............offal.........ewwwww

but I love them too especially with salad cream

ScummyMummy · 25/09/2006 14:21

I haven't had a scotch egg for ages! [happy dreamily nostalgic emoticon] They must be good protein wise, no? And there's nothing wrong with eggs, quality sausage meat and breadcrumbs afaik.

Nemo1977 · 25/09/2006 14:22

oh good as ds and dd want them at least 3 days a week for lunch. Personally dont like them and never have but cant be too bad give them with some salad etc.

They are so tasty aren't they? The sausage meat might have preservatives, stabilisers and other stuff in it though.

NomDePlume · 25/09/2006 14:40

and salt in the sausagemeat. Oh and possibly colourings in the 'breadcrumbs'

GreenLumpyTonsils · 25/09/2006 14:40

Um - they're not great, are they?

KathyMCMLXXII · 25/09/2006 14:41

I expect it depends on whether you get them from Asda or from one of Rick Stein's Food Heroes.

NotQuiteCockney · 25/09/2006 14:41

I can't get my head round them. What on earth gave people the idea to boil and egg, then wrap it up in ground pork and then breadcrumbs. Is it fried as well?

(We don't have scotch eggs in Canada.)

madmarchhare · 25/09/2006 14:42

Well its like sausage isnt it?, depends where they come from.

CheesyFeet · 25/09/2006 14:44

Like most things it's probably better if you make your own rather than buying cheap ones from Asda.

I think they're nice though, even the cheap ones. But then I like pork pies and sausage rolls too, so who am I to comment?

ScummyMummy · 25/09/2006 14:44

You get your head round them by putting them in your mouth, nqc. [helpful emoticon]

Lol @ I expect it depends on whether you get them from Asda or from one of Rick Stein's Food Heroes, Kathy!

PeachyClairHasBadHair · 25/09/2006 14:45

Oh I saw a thing on diabetic uk about the amount of fat in sausages- higher in quality ones apparently (less fillers) will see what I can find but it's not nice, 20% or something

Shame, coz I love them

NotQuiteCockney · 25/09/2006 14:45

I dunno, they just seem unduly treyf to me. (Of course, I'm in a country where you can get cheese and ham bagels [boggle emoticon]).

MrsSpoon · 25/09/2006 14:46

Never had one but the thought of them makes me feel sick. Think it's the egg, I've got a thing about egg that hasn't just been freshly cooked.

PeachyClairHasBadHair · 25/09/2006 14:47

30% fat and high in carbs and salt too

drat

but you know, once in a while...

CatBert · 25/09/2006 14:49

There's nothing more evil than a "picnic" egg bought from the service station. There's nothing more tasteless and disappointing than a bought scotch egg from tescos. However...

Good sausages, and squeeze out the insides, and wrap around your own boiled eggs, dipped in homemade breadcrumbs, and serve hot with salad...

Seriously lovely. Really! They are! And all the nicer for being slightly flat and occasionally burnt on each side from the frying!
