Slow cooked chicken

So I have bought a slow cooker and have pils over for Sunday lunch tomorrow. The plan is to put chicken, lardons, garlic, shallots and a bottle of wine in to cook. Now do I put it on this evening to cook on low until Sunday lunchtime, or do I put it on in the morning on high? I have a toddler, so my idea of morning on a Sunday is definitely morning. Help!

I put a medium size chicken into our slow cooker with half a pint of water and cook it on low. I put it on first thing for about 8 hours and it's delicious.

Are you using a whole chicken or chicken pieces? If I do a whole chicken, I put it in 'dry' just sitting on onion and garlic and cook for about 8 hours on high.
If you're cooking chicken pieces (and going for a stew/casserole type thing) you might want to chuck in some potatoes and not too much wine/stock or you'll end up with a very thin soup and chicken bits.
Just my experience though!

I always cook it dry just sitting on "stock veg" for about 8 hours there will be loads of juices to make gravy without any liquid added.

Don't put the whole bottle of wine in! The slow cooker needs less liquid rather than more, as none of the moisture from the chicken will evaporate whilst it's cooking. So a little drizzle in the bottom prior to cooking is fine, not the whole bottle or you'll end up with wine soup!

With chicken don't leave it on endlessly all day otherwise it may be a bit dry. So either 4 hours on high or 7 hours on low...
