Talk to me about school shoes?

Just moved back to the UK and getting used to school uniforms now the children are school age. I am not sure how flexible the interpretation of 'school shoes' is? Do they have to be black? Clarks etc? Or will walking shoes (not boots) do for both a 5 year old girl and an 8 year old boy? Karrimors are hardy and reasonably water proof and not expensive in some sports shops and we've done them for the past two years. They can walk miles in them and climb etc which is great. In brown or black - will that do? Thanks so much.

We've always gone down the clarks or start right route.

Without seeing an example it would be hard to comment but my experience is that different schools vary on what they will accept.

Could you call the school or ask a neighbour?

(If you dont get many responses it might want to put this thread in a better location than food)

I think you might be in the wrong topic Smile

But the answer is - really depends on the school. My boys are 7 & 5 in a state school with uniform, and the karrimor shoes you describe would be fine. The majority of kids are wearing clarks-style 'school shoes' in a sober colour (mostly black) - but a large minority are wearing something a bit more off-piste, ranging from trainers to boots.

My boys wear goretex ankle boots when I can get them (clarks end of line) - we are in Scotland and it's generally wet - and I go for anything in a dark colour if I can't get black. Otherwise they wear the more standard looking school shoes - Sainsburys or Clarks usually. Girls are often in boots in winter - I think because girls school shoes are generally too flimsy for the wet.

We have Karrimor shoes for out-of-school atm, and agree that they are v good and v cheap (Sports Direct Smile)
