what's the weirdest meal you've ever served your DCs?

I'm not feeling very well and just shoved some fish in the oven. five minutes later realised it probably wouldn't be enough, no more fish so put in some fishcakes. Sat down on the sofa, eyes closed and the oven started beeping at me before I'd done anything to go with it and the only thing quick enough was frozen yorkshire puddings.

So the DSs are (quite happily) eating fish, fishcakes and yorkshire puddings.

Not my finest culinary moment Grin

Fish and fishcakes sound OK. You could brand it "Fish, Two Ways". In fact you probably can get that at some fancy gastropub. Grin

Not me but a photo on Facebook from someone I know, proudly showing their child eating chips and jam for tea. Shock
I admit to judging.

Yorkies are pretty much just puffy pancakes. Maple syrup and berries/banana is perfectly fine for breakfast :o

A couple of things I made didn't freeze so well on a couple of occasions so sweet potato and chick pea curry became curry soup served with a roll.

I remember staying at a friends grand parents house with her and her mum.
The grandparents went out leaving us to fend for ourselves with no food in the house.
Friends mum ended up serving (a single!) hard boiled egg and peas for tea!

trikken · 14/08/2014 11:04

Id eat that. Yum

Ds1, a few years ago, when he was 14 stayed at his friends overnight. His friend and his friends mum were going away for the summer holidays that day. They has take away pizza for tea.

But there was nothing for breakfast apart from chocolate buttons. Ds1 wasn't sure whether to be happy or sad about this. Given that his friend only lived 5 mins walk to a large supermarket, I told ds1 he should have popped their and bought something from there. At 14 I would expect him to be able to use his initiate Smile

Exh once did me the most unusual (!) meal. I had a bad back, so wasn't able to shop or cook etc. exh was completely useless. For tea he did a nan bread with tinned spaghetti on top!

DH once made 'sweetcorn soup' in my presence. It turned out to be beef oxo with sweetcorn floating in it **. Needless to say, I declined his, er, generous lavatorial offering...

Fishfingers and custard to Dr Who obsessed DS1. He guzzled it down.

Weirdo.

scottishmummy · 14/08/2014 20:24

Same plate for the fishfingers and custard

MimsyBorogroves · 14/08/2014 22:02

They were in the same bowl!

DS once asked me to make him a frinana - banana fritatta. Really not a good idea, even when covered with golden syrup.

scottishmummy · 15/08/2014 19:13

Wahey mimsy thats funny

SpottyTits · 15/08/2014 19:18

Buttered pasta with fish fingers mixed in. They love it.

I was using up bits from the fridge once and gave DD sausages and corned beef for lunch. I was very embaressed when my vegetarian neighbour called in just after I served it up.

iklboo · 15/08/2014 19:38

DS wanted tuna & cheesy wotsit butties on Thursday. I thought that was a bit weird.

Fish fingers and custard is a regular treat here!

A couple of years ago when the cupboards were nearly empty I told dc they could pick whatever they wanted from the cupboard. They chose spaghetti and a tin of baked beans!
