do your kids eat chicken?

Seriously, I thought kids were meant to eat chicken! Maybe it is my cooking but mine just won't eat it.

They eat mince (beef and lamb) and lots of fish but I keep trying to get them to eat chicken but every meal I try if point blank rejected (or at least the meat bit of it). They won't eat pork either but I think that really is my cooking as it always goes quite tough.

I am beginning to wonder why I bother trying to cook chicken meals. I have tried giving them the same meal over and over again but it is just ruining meal times. DD1 is nearly 4 yr old and I haven't succeeded yet?

Do your kids eat chicken? Is too much red meat really bad for us?

Do they eat any foods which require biting and chewing? It's interesting that they'll eat beef and lamb if it's minced but not chicken or pork if it's entrecote. Have you tried them with poultry mince to see if that is the issue?

Mine love chicken

Favourites are in risotto or fajitas ( they are 3 and 4)

Dd1 won't eat chicken much though is happy eating all other meat. She says it has a funny taste. Maybe try turkey as an alternative? Perhaps also try a different chicken recipe. Dd2's favourite is chicken in leek and cream sauce. Hth

Chicken and pork taste quite boring, and are really dry if overcooked. My 5 year old daughter isn't keen on them either but red meat and fish she'd eat me out of house and home. I think it's partly a flavour thing for her as she likes really strong tastes which apparently is unusual. She always goes for the smelliest cheese for example

I've found that she'll eat drumsticks and chicken wings as I can marinate them and she can pick it up with her fingers and gnaw on it like a wild creature. She doesn't like chicken breast but she will eat it because she doesn't get a choice and she wouldn't choose a pork roast but will eat that too.

mmmm...yes I think they are lazy and don't like chewing! I have tried Turkey mince but I feel it is a bit bland without any spice and they won't eat anything spicy either.

They are not exceptional fussy as they eat all veg, all carbs and a decent about of protein (mince, fish, pulses, eggs, nuts, prawns etc.)

I just don't know whether to continue trying to cook something with chicken or pork in it each weekend. Every weekend the kids refuse to eat it and DH says "yeah it was fine" and I really wonder if it is worth it. I've been writing the shopping list and I was going to try this on Saturday as at least it won't be too much effort. But it will still be quite expensive.

enb - how do you cook your drumsticks so they don't go dry? I have a load in the freezer as I could buy free range chicken thighs on their own from tescos.

Really slowly on a really low heat. Marinate them in something like soy, sesame and honey, stick them in the oven on 140 for 40 mins to an hour - you'll see the meat pull back from the bone but they'll be really succulent.

Mine don't like chicken or pork as much as other proteins. They Like a chicken curry but otherwise would much prefer beef or lamb mince or fish.

They love my ginger beer pork, but it isn't exactly healthy - loads of sugar!

Mine love chicken, esp in stir fry or a roast. Neither like it cold.

They also recently decided they both love pork chops, since I found a Nigel Slater recipe frying them with gooseberries. Sometimes it's just trying a different way with it.
