After waching the programme you are what you eat i was inspired to make crisps from parsnips and sweet potatoes. I followed the recipy: use your peeler, make strips, put in the oven for 150 degrees for 15 minutes. they were not noce. Does anyone have a recipy i could try, please. I like the idea.

I think she put some olive oil on them - not sure if that would make much difference though.

toss in a little olive oil and salt - also turn when cooking, or shake them around a bit
It took me a few goes to get it right as well.
I found a slightly higher oven and make sure it is properly pre heated and cook them nearer the top. keep a careful eye, fine line between perfect crisps and burnt ones.

I did use the oil and i ended up cooking them for extra 5 minutes so it was 20 minutes in total, the oven was preheated but the crisps were not nice. They were difficult to digest and it was a funny smell in the kitcen. most went in a rubbish bin.

Oh God, please don't tell me we all have to start making crisps from scratch now. Top marks to you Fedda for trying but does anyone honestly have the time or the motivation to do this. I'm a SAHM and love to cook but this is going too far for me. Would rather have no crisps at all

oxocube, sorry, didn't mean to upset you, I just wanted to try to make crisps in a healthy way and also introduce more veg. to my kids. it's a nice idea to use parsnips, carrot sticks, sweet potato and attract the kids having heathy snack after the school. I see so many mums with crisps, donuts and chocolates when I meet my older son. Well, it's a pity I've waisted my time. i do wish I cold make a better snack.

fedda, bless you!! It would take a lot more than home-made crisps to upset me and I hope I haven't offended you Sometimes, I think we worry too much, thats all, but hey, good on you for having a go at home-made crisps. Re getting veggies into your kids, do they eat soup? I often make soup to use up extra veg or if my kids are moaning about eating their broccoli (and parsnip soup is delicious)

well whilst we're on the subject, does anybodyu have her recipie for, oh I can't remember the name, some kind of dip with chickpeas...it'll come in a minute

oxocube · 21/09/2006 17:46

Houmous - think its on today's recipes thread

CapedCrusader · 21/09/2006 18:18

thank you!

oxocube, thank you for your message. My youngest son, 3, doesn't like soups at all but he eats well anyway (so far, they change and always surprise us, don't they) but the older son only likes covent garden carrot and coriander and tin tomato soup. No matter how many times I've made my soups, he might have a tiny bit at best.
