ds is two in october and is drinking just over a pint of full fat milk a day given to him in the morning, afternoon and before bedtime. Im trying to wean him off his bottle so he will drink his milk from a beaker but he doesnt seem to be drinking as much as he did with the beaker.

Hi my ds is 2 and that sounds about right to me. I also give mine milk on cereal which he likes to drink from the bowl after he has eaten (trick learnt from dh not me !. He also has 2 yoghurts a day and cheese if he decides to eat it. My ds cut down alot too when I got rid of his bottle but just try and top him up with the food he eats if you can.

milk is a good nutritious drinks, and I think guidelines are about 1 pint a day (including on cereal etc.)
The only problem I know of is that milk is quite filling, so can lead to a smaller appetite for food.

Definitely persevere with the beaker; it may be that sucking the bottle is a comfort which is why he drinks more with the bottle.

2/3 pt per day is the minimum recommendation including dairy from food. Obviously more is OK, but it would not harm if your DS cut his intake somewhat due to having a beaker instead of a bottle.

Don't know but if it makes you feel any better I have a 2.8 ds who has not drunk milk since giving up the bottle (of his own accord) at 19 months. I discovered those little yoghurt drinks which he will happily have, he also has yoghurt, icecream, milk on cereal and cheese and seems to be doing just fine.

You may find that by transferring to a beaker he drinks less milk but eats better to compensate. He would be fine drinking a bit less milk.

Yeah has definitely gained an appettie which im pleased about as he was born prem and still has alot of catching up to do.So if cuts back tp less then a pint a day i shouldnt worry then is that right? Are they allowed semi-skimmed milk now?

I've got this same issue at the moment and my ds is exactly the same age. What I've started doing is gradually reducing the amt of milk given in his morning bottle and then giving him a little milk in a beaker with his breakfast. Ultimately I'm hoping he will just get used to the beaker so that he can just have his milk as part of his bfast and then keep the bottle at night and deal with that another time!!!

dd has not drunk milk since she stopped her bottle at 10 months she just wont drink it even refuses milkshakes, and wont have milk on her cereal but she has a really good appetite and eats loads of cheese and yoghurts and more fruit than the recommended 5 a day! been told not to worry about it
