Turnips and kohlrabi - how to cook

These turn up from time to time in our veg box and I don't really know what to do with them? We had steamed turnips a couple of weeks ago - which didn't go down that well and I can only find a potato and turnip gratin in my river cottage everyday veg book. As for the kohlrabi, it's a kinda turnip isn't it?! Any inspiring ideas welcomed for me , DH and dd (13 months)

Kohlrabi is a brassica. It is basically like a broccoli stem. You would slice it up and steam it. It is a long time since I had any, but I seem to remember it was good with a white sauce. Alternatively, you could grate it raw in to a salad.

I've cooked thinly sliced kohl rabi sticks in curry. Would put turnip in soup or mixed mash with spuds.

Ooh lovely ideas! I made a creamy bake with the kohlrabi, turnip, onion, garlic and peas last night. No complaints this time!

turnip chips went down well in our house. peel turnips and then cut into chunks, add some olive oil and roast in the oven.
