What is a smart food diet?

quornmummy · 16/07/2014 11:56

Hi happy. Basically as I understand it your diet consists mainly of fruit and veg and whole grains. You would have wholemeal bread and use wholemeal flour in recipes. You limit refined sugar intake, salt etc.. , no sugary drinks just water and try to eat as little processed foods as possible.

Surely that's just a normal healthy diet?

Well yes but it is difficult to stick to with the array of fruit shoots, sweets and sugary goodies everywhere you visit especially when you eat out. just interested to know if anyone had had any positive results with improved mood/behaviour etc.

Ah ok, thanks. It sounds healthy. I guess my kids eat like that most of the time at home, for example, they only drink milk and water, and at weekends we squeeze orange juice (theirs is then watered down a bit). However they eat their main meal in the week at school which is "homecooked", healthy and varied but does include things like white rice, pasta and bread, sugary yoghurts too.

A friend's daughter who is a lovely, sweet 8 year old of average intelligence and concentration, goes totally beserk soon after eating a biscuit (just a normal Rich Tea type). It lasts 15 mins up to an hour and the change is remarkable, she turns into a 2 year old with a tantrum. Parents don't seem to have noticed. If I give her a treat I go for a piece if cheese or ham or a few potato crisps as she loves them, especially ham or cheese. No tantrums on my watch!!
