Can anyone recommend one? I've just recently gone gluten free and I'm. struggling for ideas.

TIA

Delia's Cakes (launched in the Spring last year) contains around 100 cake recipes and more than 90% of them can be made gluten free.

Good to know, thanks, but I was thinking more general family meal recipes.

I got this one (with the pie on the front, not the cake). Think it's lovely.
Lots are becoming family favs or a gf way of cooking what was already a favourite of a fussy. Most aren't too complicated either.

I think I got mine in The Works for about £6, but haven't seen it in there for a while now...

I love this:

There is a Well-Fed 2 as well, just as good. Both are Paleo cook books. Paleo ig grain free, and in my experience gran free is much better than "just" gluten-free (been doing it for 2 years now). After a while, you will stop substituting and just eat real food ;)

TBH, find specifically gf books to be boring, or not worth it as its things like chilli where the gf adaptation is 'use a gf stock cube'.

Apart from pastry, adapting family meals is really easy once you source stock cubes, gravy, soy sauce etc

'The Intolerant Gourmet' cookbooks are great. All the recipes are gluten, dairy and egg free but we are only gluten free in our house so I use butter and eggs in the recipes instead of the alternatives. Everything is really easy to put together and tastes great.

Thank all.

miss I don't think grain free is for me - I'm struggling to get enough calories in me as it is without wheat, let alone without any other grains. The lbs are dropping off and for me that's not a positive thing. Thanks all the same Smile

Gerty, you need to up your fat intake when you lower your intake of gluten (full of carbs) so you get enough calories. Think full fat Greek youghurt, eggs, butter, avocados etc. Stop eating lean meat, get the fattier cuts (cheaper too).

Phil Vickory has a couple of gluten free books - family orientated everyday cooking.

Another vote here for Paleo/primal recipes although I know you say "grain free is not for me" I think it's worth looking at a couple of Paleo/primal blogs... Plenty of family recipes and no need to actually buy the books unless you really want to.

It really is easier to cook different things rather than gf versions which are never going to taste or feel the same iykwim

If you look at Marks Daily Apple blog, and Robbwolf.com Paleo solution blog, there are lots of recipes and links to other sites with recipes. The great thing is, EVERYTHING on these sites is GF, so no faffing about trying to substitute... All of the recipes will be suitable. And if your ibs is improving on gf, but hasn't resolved totally, there is a fairly good chance you will get further improvements from going grain free (lots of people cross react to one or more other grains, it may be substances other than gluten that's causing you issues).

Grains are not actually a very nutrient dense source of calories - fat is much better! By fat, I mean natural animal fats (what comes attached to the meat, in the eggs, butter, virgin olive and coconut oils... Not industrially processed fats (seed oils, margarines etc).

The trouble with a lot of gf cook books, is the recipes are often even more sugar/carb laden than the "real" version!

RawCoconutMacaroon · 15/07/2014 09:51

Blush, sorry op! you didn't actually mention ibs! Was thinking of another thread!

Gerty1002 · 15/07/2014 14:17

That's ok, I'm not entirely sure if it is just gluten - still getting some symptoms but also not 100% clued up in hidden sources of gluten etc.so have possibly had some somewhere along the line.

I have never bothered with lean meat and am eating a lot of full fat dairy as I'm weaning 10mo DS. Not really sure where I could fit any more fat in!

Healthy Gluten Free Cooking by Darina Allen and Rosemary Kearney is a great book. Tons of delicious recipes whether you are gf or not.
