Thermos lunch box

My son will be staying over for lunch for the first time in September (pre-school) and he is mainly used to eating warm lunches like pasta/ rice etc. He is not keen on sandwiches. Are there good lunchboxes out there that keep food warm? Any suggestions? Or should I resort to cold alternatives? Thanks for your help ladies!

wide necked thermos

Will preschool be OK with hot food - tho I guess it will be warm?

Come summer, might he like cold rice and pasta salads etc?

Thanks for suggestion! So these flasks work and are child friendly?
As far as I am aware pre school is okay with hot/ warm food. What about primary schools in general? Do more kids have warm lunches with them or should I shape my son slowly into his 'sandwiches destiny'?

We have this food flask for both DDs (3.5 and 6). They regularly take pasta, pizza, soup and even jacket potatoes in it for school lunch. It's not huge, but plenty big enough for a child sized portion.

DS1 has a hot lunch at school, 'cause I pay for school lunches.
Reception, Y1 and Y2 will get free school meals, so next year I won't have to pay. So he should be OK at school, assuming you get a school with a kitchen.

I've never used the thermos with the kids, its people at work I've seen use them (for pasta, left overs, soup and jacket potatoes mainly).

You'll have to investigate if he can open it once you've shut it tight enough to be leak proof.

We use 'thermos Foogo'. Great if out and about anywhere.
Both of mine don't really eat bread so for packed lunches/ picnics they have a variety of hot and cold food

Meatballs and rice
Pesto pasta with roasted veg
Egg fried rice and veg
Flaked fish, rice/ potatoes and peas
Potatoe daulphenise
Chicken, veg, noodles
Rice pudding, and stewed fruit

Then add something like below also, depending on what's in hot pot.
Sausages ( hot or cold)
Chicken ( hot or cold)
Avocado/ chunks cheese/ salad bits
Quiche
Fruit chopped

I dont tend to serve sloppy things like stew/ soup etc in case it gets spilt and they get burnt. The things above are fine to eat warm or cooler also so not as bad if doesn't stay piping hot. Most the hot food is just leftovers from dinner night before

there are also these which are excellent, we used to have one for our son when he was on packed lunch. They don't keep things hot but that didn't seem to be a problem. I would put in things like pasta & cold schnitzel or chicken nuggets. We also used to have this as well for more sandwich-like packed lunches.
