Is DRIED FRUIT good for you????

I know that it contributes to your 5 a day but DD only eats dried fruit.

She loves dried mango, figs and raisins. She would eat them until the cos come home. I am sure that I read that the fruit sugar concentrates when it is dried. Is that a bad thing? In the absence of fresh fruit is it a good substitute?

She is 20mths.

But isnt the whole idea of "5 a day" is eating as many differnt types of both fruit & veg so you get as many of the nutrients & minerals you need. Only eating one type of fruit or veg will never give you enough of all the required nutrients whether it is fresh or dried, tinned etc. Yes dried does count, but for me its maybe an occasional part say when the particular season means there is not much choice. Eating food nearer to its natural state will always be preferble to eating processed in my book as you will always get more nutrients (unless you are talking about tomatoes or similar as they actually release more as they are cooked).

Yes terramum but when you have kids who won't or can't eat various fruit and veg it's good to know that what they do eat goes some of the way towards a healthy diet.
