We are trying to cut all the c**p from the DC's diet

Yeo Valley organic spreadable butter is lovely Xena. But Lurpak and Anchor are also good.
If you want to reduce additives, these are the best to go for IMO as they are just blends of sunflower oil and butter.
If you want calorie reduction as a top priority, we like the Pure Reduced Fat Organic Spread (nb this is made like margarine not butter).

Just butter is the best, surely?

MrsBadger · 10/09/2006 20:07

for crap-free DCs, probably plain unsalted butter as it's the least processed, has least additives etc

for weight, cholesterol and saturated fat-conscious adults, a plant-based reduced-fat spread like Flora Light or Benecol or similar.

Thanks so butter for the Dc's and reduced fat for DH and I, we use flora light atm but we want to reduce our additives as well as the childrens

i stopped going anywhere near the spreadable margs and butters after reading an article on how they make them. unfortunately i can't remember the details, but i just know i've always bought organic butter since.

what i would say is, i've noticed that organic butter seems to be much more stable. if i take it out of the fridge it seems to be immediately softer than, say, ordinary Lurpak. plus if i leave it on the counter it seems to hold its shape much better without going all runny and gungy. i'e no idea why that would be, but my sister has also remarked on it so there are two of us in agreement on this.

What are you using it for? There are not many things that actually have to have spread on, IMO. I hardly ever have butter in a sandwich, I just put the filling onto reasonably fresh bread and it's fine. Ds is a butter fiend, though, so he eats loads. Just thought, if you wanted to, you could mostly avoid it altogether (or olive oil on toast is quite nice)

butter only
I'd rather go without any speard than use anything else
After all if the flies won't eat it, then buggered if I will
this is my bugbear

olive oil on toast franny? Bruschetta surely?

I have started mixing butter with olive oil to make it spread more easily.
Stopped marg years ago. Would rather have a small amount of butter than yeuky marg.

Ds1 won't eat a sandwich filler and DD2 is the only one who likes soft cheese etc. So when I started with the new 'regime' we were in cornwall where they make butter locally with no additives.
I am having another problem actually since school went back that filling them up is more difficult as we have stopped crisps DS1 is 8 and comes home starving on sandwich, cucumber (2 inches), pot of grapes, cherries or blueberries, and cake
