I used tin of chickpeas mashed into fried small onion garlic. Used some flour to push into shapes. Fried them. But they were still mushy and dd couldnt eat them as finger food very well.

Any ideas? I didnt add any extra liquid.

Did you drain and then dry the chickpeas thoroughly enough?

did drain but didnt dry ... maybe thats where I went wrong?

Could be. The only other thing I can think of is that I'm fairly sure I've seen recipes that use dried chickpeas (soaked overnight obviously). The tinned ones may absorb too much liquid.

Better luck next time!

All my felafel recipes use dried chickpeas soaked overnight but not cooked. The tinned ones are cooked (and left to soak up liquid in the tin for ages) so won't produce the same texture.

On the bright side, the dried ones are cheaper.
