Additive free diet (ADHD)

DD1(7) has many ADHD traits and we are just starting additive free diet. Does anyone else do this? Do you have any tips you can share? 2 weeks in, we are convinced she is calmer and less out of control so feel it is definitely worth continuing.

I don't follow an additive-free diet for ADHD but general health reasons and because I prefer fresh, simple food over heavily processed, packaged and flavoured stuff. If I had a tip it would be to read Michael Pollan's book 'In Defence of Food' and specifically his excellent suggestions on how to distinguish 'food' (actual, nourishing, real food) from 'edible food-like substances'.

For example, however enthusiastic you are about making food from scratch, there are always going to be a few basic things that you buy ready-made e.g pasta, sausages or peanut butter. Pollan's suggestion to look for versions that contain 'fewer than five ingredients' is often a good way to eliminate additives
