Do you mean in a sandwich toaster?

Maybe if you beat it first - might come out like an omelette?

southeastastra · 07/09/2006 14:48

no it's illegal

iota · 07/09/2006 14:48

you can make omlettes in a sandwich toaster BTW

NotQuiteCockney · 07/09/2006 14:48

It might cook ... doesn't take much to cook an egg.

I like making omellette sandwiches, though, whisk egg, fry egg, put on bread.

Do let us know if it works, might make me tempted to own a sandwich toaster ...

BettySpaghetti · 07/09/2006 14:49

I remember trying this as a kid/teenager when sandwich toasters were the "in" thing to have -from what I recall, make a dip by pressing the bread down into the recesses, add egg, close and prepare for a horrible mess that will have you cursing and vowing never to use sandwich toaster again

an egg sandwich. Ta da!

Tommy · 07/09/2006 15:09

I'm oretty sure you can - must have read it in hte little book that came with the sandwich toaster.
Quite why you would want to though is another question...

Mum2FunkyDude · 07/09/2006 15:11

No, cook it first, put it on later. Unless you want french toast (sortoff)

Mercy · 07/09/2006 15:15

Very good, anorak!

Well, have you made it yet?

bendi · 07/09/2006 15:22

Would these be the eggs that we should be freezing at 30 to use be 40? Or have I got my threads tangled? Sorry, it made me snigger..

marthamoo · 07/09/2006 15:47

Yes, you can - you do mean in a sandwich toaster? Just break the egg carefully onto the bread (if you sort of squash the bread onto the hotplate a bit it makes a depression in the centre), put the top slice of bread on, and cook til the bread's toasty. It's one of my all time fave toasted sandwich fillings - the yolk is still soft and it all squishes out yummily when you cut into it.

Though - just thought - my toastie maker doesn't divide the sandwich like a Breville one does. Though a Breville doesn't actually cut the sandwich in half, does it?

Def not to be tried with a Breville.....that bloomin' ridge in the middle seems to inadvertantly turn said sandwich into some kind of spray paint contraption..

coderoo · 08/09/2006 13:23

shit
haev only just seen marthas reply and have had lunch now

sure I've had this with bacon - cook bacon and lay on bread, push intio the well to make a dip and break egg in carefully as martha said. Really yummy!
