love waggamamma's mmmmm
it's japanese food but with a western palate in mind - lots of noodle soup dishes and rice dishes as well. Great starter is edamame - salted soy beans or gyoza - kind of like a chinese dumpling/roll.
is very canteen like though but it works

anniediv · 06/09/2006 20:46

Also great to take kids to, colouring and crayons provided and special easy to use chopsticks that are joined at one end like a pair of tongs IYKWIM.

Roobie · 06/09/2006 20:48

I love it but the food is a bit exotic and weirdy for kids imo (unless they have really sophisticated pallets)

Clayhead · 06/09/2006 20:50

My favourites are the yasai yaki soba (42 I think) and the katsu curry (72). Hmmm, think I may have been there once too often...

It's fantastic for kids.

I also agree with myermay, it's fab but not a lingering kind of place.

I love it.
here's the menu

I usually have chicken tama rice and dd and ds both have chicken noodles from the children's menu which is lovely and plain although dd does like to dip hers in the soy sauce.

hana · 06/09/2006 20:51

lots in london, not sure about rest of country!

Heathcliffscathy · 06/09/2006 20:52

love wagamama

my ds loves it there (he is nearly 3)

they have a great kids menu with plainer stuff on it (altho he is always pinching ours)

have never had a duff thing there.

especially like the prawn coconut curry they have on the menu at the moment and the ramen soups

Heathcliffscathy · 06/09/2006 20:52

agree: fast food, but healthy.

Gem13 · 06/09/2006 20:53

The gyoza is yummy and there's a dish with rice and chicken that my 2 like (4 and 2). They do children's portions which we always divide in 2 anyhow.

The noodle soup dishes can be very comforting. I used to go to one in London after work in winter and feel revived afterwards!

The apple and carrot juice is good too.

I might go for my birthday next week too... (like last year)!

It's certainly not a place to enjoy a long meal, lots of talking, relaxing over a bottle of wine type place.

tbh, it's an overpriced canteen, eat up and fuck off type place - with an IKEA style philosophy.

BUT BUT - it's absolutely great for a lunch with kids

iota · 06/09/2006 20:53

well even my really fussy ds1 will eat mini chicken katsu:

deep fried breadcrumbed chicken breast served with japanese style rice, shredded cucumber and a lightly spiced curry sauce .

Of course he won't eat the currry sauce, but it come in its own pot so it's not a problem

iota · 06/09/2006 20:54

menus here

Clayhead · 06/09/2006 20:58

Wow Gem13, you're lucky, mine are 4 and 3 and demolish a child's meal each with a few edemame beans thrown in for good measure! They cost me a fortune!

ds has also been known to drink the sauce that comes with the chicken noodles

Mercy · 06/09/2006 21:05

btw, be prepared to queue - if the London branches are anything to go by!

JennT · 06/09/2006 21:48

LOVE wagamama for lunch when shopping. The salted soya beans are great.

superloopy · 06/09/2006 22:00

I love Wagamama!! It was my birthday on Monday and I went there for lunch with DH. He's v fussy about food but had chicken ramen (noodle and chicken soup)and loved it. I had my usual choice of chicken gyoza (dumplings) and chicken Katsu curry-YUMMY!! I want it now!! Anyway whatever you do or wherever you eat I hope that you have a lovely day.

mumof3teens · 07/09/2006 16:10

Never been myself but DS1 went to Wagamama in Manchester and was sat next to David Walliams and Matt Lucas - said they always eat at Waga when touring (bit of useless info)!

NotQuiteCockney · 07/09/2006 16:12

Gyoza are always popular with kids.

Although the last time DS1 had any (at a Japanese restaurant in Montreal, I think) he started asking for cheese pierogis. Poor confused kid.
