I have tried weaning my daughter from the age of 6 months old and ever since this time she is repeatedly sick whenever she swallows the first spoonfall, I have kept on trying and she is now 13 months old and still the same is happening, she is sometimes sick on the first spoon fall or further spoons when being fed and is not making herself sick but its like she has an intolerance to the food and a reflex. My H.V has not been much help. She is on SMA PROGRESS and seems to enjoy it as it seems to satisfy her, we tried her on cows milk and she hates this as well....any suggestions??

Does she feed herself anything?

champs · 05/09/2006 00:07

have you been to your gp?

how is she with finger foods?

horsecrazy · 05/09/2006 00:08

Only her bottle of milk, she does take an interest in food and tries to take it from you but just cannot seem to keep it down....

What has your HV said?

Is there anything she can keep down other than milk?

What have you tried giving her (I'm assuming loads of things because it's been a long time and you've been worried)?

horsecrazy · 05/09/2006 00:12

H.V said she is a milk baby??? She cannot keep anything down other than milk and have tried her with loads, first baby foods and also finger foods and even what we are eating, its truly worrying now........its weird cause she is happy and healthy and growing well and the formula milk seems to be satisfying her still......but she should be eating by now

1 would get her checked out with the gp there may be a phsical reason she can't eat solids, would be good to have investigated to be on the safe side.

horsecrazy · 05/09/2006 00:30

will definatley do that.....thanks

please do go and see your gp, dd can be checked out and gp may have info for you.

have you tried letting dd dip her finger into the food and lick it off? that way she wont have her mouth full (maybe the sensation she doesn't like) but gets a taste for the food.

also, maybe she has accociated food with being sick. could you put some milk on a spoon and let her taste it so she can get used to the sppon

definitely get her checked out att he GP. my brother wouldn't eat anything except for melted milkybar until he was about 4. the GP told my mum to just give him what he would eat else he would starve. in the end it turned up he had enlarged adenoids. as soon as he had them removed you couldnt stop him from eating!

Has she had any yogurt or fromage frais?
You could perhaps try giving her that to play with!
You may find some will go in!!!
Try sitting her in her highchair every mealtime that you sit down to, at least then she'll see you eat and maybe catch on eventually.
Also, try not to give her the milk until she has tried some food.
Keep it out of sight.
Have you tried skips or wotsits.
I know they're not ideal first foods, but she'll be able to suck them.
Or what about baby rusk.
They're great as finger foods.

We went through very similar with our first child.
We used to put a small spoon of food in his mouth, quickly followed by milk to wash it down.

how about something like rice pudding which has a lot of milk in anyway? or mashed potato ... sorry i can't think of anyo ther foods with milk in at the moment!!

threebob · 05/09/2006 04:07

I do think at 13 months she would benefit from a check up from GP.

horsecrazy · 05/09/2006 22:49
