Inspiration needed for weaning-friendly meals...

Hi all,

DD2 is now 6mths and having tested the water with a few fruit and veg purees I am now keen to get her eating what we eat.

But I really need some inspiration for meals which will suit us all, so can ideally be mashed up for DD2, as well as eaten by DD1 (aged 4), DH and me.

I have a freezer full of batched cooked basics like bolognese, chicken casserole, fish pie, lamb curry etc, but I'd love to get some good ideas for other meals that are maybe a bit more 'summery' as loads of the classics to me feel like stodgy winter warmers.

I do have a slow cooker which I am more than happy to use (if I remember to plug the damn thing in - see other thread...), as well as 'normal' cooking.

Please inspire me with your family favourites!

Ds2 is just one and we are in the same camp here, with trying meals for him, DS1 (3) and DH and me to share. Early favourites include salmon or courgette risotto (made with low salt stock), cod cooked in to matoes, turkey meatballs with spaghetti or polenta, roast chicken done with salad and flatbread instead of usual trimmings, bacon and courgette pasta and homemade pizzas. DS2 is more adventerous than DS1 already, I think because of sharing meals and watching his big brother! With most of these DH will adapt with a sprinkle of chilli or something as i try and not add salt or too much spice for the little ones.
I will be watching with interest to get some more ideas!

Thanks couldthisbeit that's given me some ideas already! Hopefully some other ideas will head our way soon...

Was just about to post something v similar but you've saved me a job!

Are you only looking for mashable food or is finger food ok too?

lisbapalea · 11/06/2014 08:45

Finger food is OK, as long as it's something we could all eat and feel like it's a proper meal! I don't really want a dinner of broccoli stalks and steamed carrot sticks!

Bump?

Sorry, I tried to reply five times yesterday but kept losing my message!

We do a mix of spoon and finger food, recent meals have been:

Creamy lamb saag with rice
Beef stew with mashed potato
Fish pie
Shepherds pie
Mild beef chilli with rice and soured cream
spanish chicken casserole
lasagne (as finger food, messy! he loved it!)
Cinnamon eggy bread with baked apple
scrambled egg and low salt / sugar baked beans on toast
Egg and cress sandwich with salad bits (wedges of deseeded tomato and cucumber sticks)
Cheese sandwich with salad bits
Baked potato with tuna mayo and salad bits
Roast lamb dinner (as finger food then leftover mashed bits for spoon feeding, if you do lamb in slow cooker it is tender enough to shred and put in mash)
Baked potato with leftover pulled pork
Pasta spirals with broccoli, spinach and cheese sauce
cauliflower and broccoli cheese
Pasta pesto with mushrooms and courgetteEnvy
Homemade vegetable pizza

What would you normally cook in the summer? Maybe we could suggest how to make your normal stuff more weaning friendly. I didn't make a huge amount different from what we usually cooked except if we had salad I would just sub the salad veg for lightly steamed veg sticks to serve alongside the protein.
