i mean, meals that you want children and adults to eat? if i'm dropping salt and stock powder i can't leave out the booze...

how bad can it be, if you've boiled the casserole, spag bol, whatever, so you know that the alkie-hol has evaporated off? DD is nearly nine months and today enjoyed a casserole with beef, carrots, mushrooms, new potatoes (and a bottle of beer) in it. please advise. but only if you're going to tell me it's okay and not harmful... I have been told it evaporates when you heat it. But I once served pears stewed in wine to a 9 year old and he lay down on the rug and fell asleep straight afterwards, so I have never been totally convinced since then....

Oh and aitch I have not forgotten you re: quinoa. We haven't eaten any this week yet

Jasnem · 03/09/2006 22:07

I'd be happy to do it if the alcohol is being cooked off

I'd do it for sure, if it was cooked. Maybe not vodka jellies though - save them for yourself

ProfessorGrammaticus · 03/09/2006 22:11

I've put red wine in since babyhood (maybe a little less than i otherwise would have done) and no ill effects as long as well cooked.

aitch71 · 03/09/2006 22:29

pmsl at the vodka jellies... i did once consider injecting a melon with calpol a la jamie oliver's vodka watermelon when DD's teething was really bad. now that would be wrong, huh?
good news (i think) re: the quinoa, Franny, good to see you back.

now you're thinking, astrophe...
glad that there's a consensus on the booze. (well, apart from Franny but she does it on purpose, it's an attention-seeking thing, bless her heart.)

I put red wine in my bolognese and other meat dishes and all my children eat it (they are 5.5, 3.10 and 2).

Gobbledigook · 03/09/2006 22:51

The 'bolognese' or whatever usually simmers for about half an hour after I've put the red wine in.

Fubsy · 03/09/2006 23:24

Note to self: give dd pears stewed in wine for tea tomorrow......

aitch71 · 03/09/2006 23:31

sprinkled with ground-up temazepam...

aitch71 · 03/09/2006 23:38

i do so like the idea of them eating and then going to find a quiet corner to lie down in. it's like my grandma after christmas lunch.
