I just run them under the tap when I forget to get them out in advance, and we're not dead yet!

Yes. Hot water over them til they are defrosted. Just keep changing the water as is gets cold.
Then make sure they're well cooked, just to be on the safe side!

LadySybilLikesCake · 04/06/2014 16:42

NO! Don't use the hot water tap (food poisoning risk).

You're better off putting them into a strainer and running the cold water tap over them. Don't put them in a pan of cold water and leave them as the water will get too cold and the centre of the prawns will still be frozen.

Thanks all Smile

If you don't see me on the boards again you'll know it was the prawns Grin

put them in a sieve and hold it under running cold water.

LaCerbiatta · 04/06/2014 16:47

I cook them from frozen. They take no time at all to be cooked through. Can't see what the problem is.... not exactly a whole chicken...

JamNan · 04/06/2014 17:05

Put them in a sieve and run them under a cold tap. PAt dry with paper towel. If they are pink pre-cooked prawns don't cook them for too long or they will go rubbery.

If they are raw (ie grey in colour) you need to defrost them properly but it won't take long.

KoalaDownUnder · 04/06/2014 17:07

I chuck them in a bowl of cold water for 15 minutes or so.

I've made prawn risotto using this method about 20 times, without a problem.

gertiegusset · 04/06/2014 17:08

I chuck them in a curry from frozen.

antimatter · 04/06/2014 17:08

I add mine frozen to tomato sauce.

QueenOfThorns · 04/06/2014 17:23

Yes, I would like to add that it's the cold tap that I run them under, not the hot. Works really quickly!

nowahousewife · 04/06/2014 17:26

Either out in sieve and run under cold water or just cook from frozen.

ShineSmile · 04/06/2014 17:39

I run water in sieve too. I never defrost.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 04/06/2014 17:43

I run cooked frozen prawns under the cold tap in a sieve, but uncooked ones can be cooked from frozen (learned this fairly recently from one of Nigella's programmes).

I do it all the time now and we've never suffered any ill-effects.

AgaPanthers · 04/06/2014 17:44

yep, cold water, or cook from frozen.

CointreauVersial · 04/06/2014 17:46

I use hot water, but from the kettle (I boil it, then add some cold so it's not too hot). Still alive (I'm normally eating the prawns within minutes, so no time for any bugs to grow).

EndoplasmicReticulum · 04/06/2014 17:49

I cook from frozen e.g. bubbling in a curry.

Still alive.

AgaPanthers · 04/06/2014 18:05

hot water will leech flavour out of your prawns.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 04/06/2014 19:44

Used the cold tap and have lived to tell the tale Smile Had curry and it was lovely. Thanks everyone Thanks
