Vegetable Juicing Recipes for Blenders

PavlovtheCat · 01/06/2014 22:48

I would like to try the children on some juices that have some vegetables in (DS in particular does not like vegetables) but until I know if it is worth buying a juicer I will need to use my blender attachment on the food processor.

I also want to try some different juices in the mornings to try and improve my energy levels etc and DH needs more fruit and veg in his diet!

So, two lots really:

  1. suitable for the children, likely to be enjoyed by the fussier vegetable eaters but who like fruit juice.
  2. some perhaps less fruit like ones that might still taste nice, for us adults, detoxing ones, cleansing, energy lifting, etc.

Must not contain ginger as I can't bear it unless it's in a curry, but other spices, herbs, etc are fine.

I was about to reply but then saw the no ginger bit, I put that in all mine!

A good one is carrot, beetroot and cooking apple - the sourness of the cooking apple sets off the sweetness of the carrot very well. Not sure how well it would work in a blender though as they're all quite hard...

Yes I thought I would add the 'no ginger' caveat as I know it's a current health kick for many right now, and I can't bear the stuff. Not helped by having ginger stuffed under my nose a million times while suffering from HG in my last pregnancy Grin (well, both pregnancies, but worse in the last one, the more sick I was, the more ginger was mentioned Grin)

and you're right, both carrot and apple are probably a bit hard for the blender, definitely the carrot is, unless I grate it in? Hmm, will think about that. Beetroot would blend well, and I love it. And it's good for us isn't it?

Have a look at the juice master website. Good ideas on there - just omit the ginger and add more green leaves/reduce fruit in any recipes you think look too sweet. He has a list of kid-friendly ideas.

My kids have liked the green ones (juiced green veg/apples or pineapple and then blended with avocado) or the beetroot ones (juiced beetroot, carrot and orange). You can also add a bit of coconut oil/milk to 'up' the fat content.

Last winter I made a fair few and added lime to most of them (for Vit C!)

I put apples & carrots in my blender & it's fine!
My favourite at the mo is apple (1), spinach (2 handfuls), lime (1 whole, peeled), apple juice (1 glass). I also put ginger, a berocca, wheatgrass powder (tsp) but probably not for children.
Whizz up with 2 cups of ice.

I do kale (2 handfuls), spinach (handful), 2 apples, whole cucumber and then squeeze in half a lemon and half a lime and it tastes nice with it. Might chuck some celery in or any green veg really. As long as you have the lime and the lemon anything tastes good i think.

My favourites are- apple/rhubarb, apple/beetroot and absolute best apple/celery/lime/mint tastes like a cocktail!

these are great thank you, I have just bought a pile of lemons and limes, so good that you have mostly all mentioned them. I like the sound of pretty much all of them, and am going to get started tomorrow. I love beetroot and think that recipe will be a hit with the children, will also try the green ones, see how they go down too.
