Soooo Dd is Frozen crazy and it's her party tomorrow.

I have an iced cake which I've just stuck a printed cake topper to. I now have a dozen sparkly snowfalkes (made by someone far more talented than me) that need attaching to the top.

How?!!

I thought I had edible glue.... Sadly it turns out it was best before 2008!!!!
Buttercream?
Icing 'dollops'

Help!!!!!

Would a little bit of icing hep? Icing sugar made with a little warm water then quickly applied, hopefully sticking!

Gileswithachainsaw · 17/05/2014 21:12

I'd go with some water icing dollops.

Icing dollops, huh?

Do you want them standing up or laying flat? If laying flat just lightly brush your icing (not the snowflakes) with water and that will make it sticky enough to hold them in place.

Have it quite thick so it doesn't soak through or squish out from the sides. But not so thick that it takes the icing off whilst trying to spread it on.

I was hoping for some standing up.....

Right, couple of options then, you could roll a few blobs of icing and squash them into little 'stands' and push the snowflakes into them. You can make a good strong glue by boiling water, squashing up a small ball of roll out icing and adding the boiling water to it. Stir it until the icing dissolves. Don't add too much water though, maybe a couple of tablespoons. That'll be stronger than water icing but you are still going to have to either prop up the snowflakes or hold them in place until it sets. Easiest way would be with little icing balls as 'stands'
Do you happen to know what type of icing the snowflakes are made from? (sugarpaste, sugarpaste with tylose, flower paste etc)

Lizziemint, I think it would be mor sensible if these snowflakes were laying down would t it?!

I'm quite a cake decorating novice, maybe tonight isn't the night to try and improbe my skills!
Thankyou very much for you advice and the time you took to reply x

Dangerous indeed, but can you use a toothpick to make them stand up? Are they thick enough?
Alternatively, stab the cake and jam the snowflake in?
