Breakfast ideas for a fussy 7 year old

Hi, I'm hoping one of you will have some advice for me..
DD1 who is 7 is a nightmare at Breakfast time. We leave for school at 8.10 and I worry that she needs a good breakfast to start her up for the day. The days I don't work ( 2 out of 5) I make her a boiled or poached egg, or a lean bacon sandwich on wholemeal bread. She is fine with these but HATES all cereals, dosn't eat much fruit but will eat yogurt and drink milk.
DD2 on the other hand eats anything you put in front of her including unsweetened porridge which she will eat by the bowl full (and then go to u=nursery and have a weetabix!!)
So, have any of you any breakfast ideas that may work and are quick for my working mornings.
As she likes milk and yogurt she should in theory like smoothies but my only attempts at banana ones and strawberry ones were totally rejected...
Any ideas anyone???

Sonnet - I recently got a book of Smoothie recipes, and they are going down VERY well in this house. Check out this thread which has a link to the book, and some sample recipes.

My boys eat loads for breakfast, but need a good while to wake up (at least half an hour) before they eat, and then take a long time to eat (c.40 mins). I'm like this too - maybe your dd just doesn't feel like eating first thing in the morning. Is it possible to send her with a substantial snack for her mid-morning break?

I buy those small pancakes, either syrup or lemon and raisin. They go down v well. Also muffins and crumpets.

CountessDracula · 23/03/2004 16:24

Scotch pancakes with fruit and/or yoghurt
Crumpets with cream cheese
Potato farl things with scrambled egg and tomato
Bagels with all sorts of things (cream cheese, tuna mayo, ham, cheese etc)

WideWebWitch · 23/03/2004 18:30

What about scrambled egg? It's much quicker and all that stuff about eggs and cholesterol isn't true apparently - 1 a day is fine.

Peanut butter on toast? Baked beans on toast? Pot of yoghurt?

Kayleigh · 23/03/2004 18:58

My ds1 likes a plate of ham, tomato and cheese.
He will also eat toast, croissants or a sandwich.Plus a bowl of cereal.

Ds2 will only eat dry shreddies (no milk)and/or toast.

I used to hate being forced to eat breakfast when I was younger and she might just not be a breakfast person. It might be too early for her so why dont you pack a breakfast to eat on the way to school with a yoghurt and a croissant or hot cross bun. The more you argue with her the more she will fight you (not that you are arguing but YSWIM!!)

Can only get mine to eat fruit, yog or scotch pancakes at brekkie - all other attempts fail dismally unless like you say, there's time to cook something - little one's favourite is boiled egg with a brie sandwich for dipping!

Thanks for all your responses - feel a bit better aabout it now - have been working it up to a bit of an issue.
I use to think she did need a "bit of time" before eating Roisin, but she'll eat a full cooked breakfast as soon as she wakes which has blown that theory!!
Link to smoothies is great - I'll try those and also the scotch pancakes, baked beans and of course why didn't I think of a ham and cheese sandwich!!
substantial Mid morning snack a very good idea and did use to doo those, but it seems very few morning she can eat them as at morning break she appears to be either changing for ballet, tap, gym or PE!! so only gets 10 mins or so...
Thanks so much ebveryone for taking the time to reply

Blimey, are you lot serious? What ace mothers you all are.

In the frog household breakfast is a bowl of whatever cereal was on special offer in Sainsbury's. Raisins or fruit on top if they're lucky. Anyone who doesn't fancy it is welcome to go to school hungry.

Show your dd this post and she'll realise how lucky she is...

Sonnet · 24/03/2004 10:59

wish it was that way in our house frogs
Sound like my mother now but I firmly believe in breakfast being the best meal of the day.
Interestingly DD1 has always been bad at breakfast....her breakfast "feed" was the first one she dropped as a baby - demand feeding for you!. DD2 LOVES breakfast although I do admit to jiggling her feeds so that she didn't drop that one first too
