Substitute for lemon / lime needed for marinade.

Hi, hoping someone out there can help.

I'm making chicken satay today. I have just started preparing the marinade and discovered I have no lemon or lime juice left. Does anyone know a suitable replacement?

I have Apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar and cream of tartar in the cupboard. I was thinking one of these might work but I'm not sure if the flavour will change. The lemon in the marinade is to tame the spicy flavours. I suppose I could always go to the shop for lemon juice but would rather not if I can get away with it as still in my PJ's if there is no suitable substitute in my cupboard.

Citrus adds a sharp zing to liven things up so vinegar works as a sub on one level.

Buuuut, although I might sub it in say a salad dressing, I'd be more careful in a marinade, esp if the other ingredients are varied and expensive.

I think I'll just try the apple cider vinegar an hope for the best. I'm sure I read something ages ago that said you can use lemon juice in place if ACV, so it should work the other way round. I never write down my recipes anyway so everytime I make something like satay it never tastes the same as the last time anyway. I will report back with how it tastes later.
