Teddy bear birthdaycake

Am planning on doing a birthday cake for DD1 in the shape of a teddy bear (2D - not one of those elaborate 3D ones!). Does anyone have any icing tips they could share? I was planning on using a bag + star pipe (but have never done this without redecorating myself and my kitchen in icing) but don't know whichs tar to use. Also is there a better and easier way of doing good fur?!

Not in any way a cake decorator, but for fur couldn't you just do butter icing and use a fork to 'rough it up' (technical term)?

Thought about that but was wondering if it would look any good or not (want it to look like I know what I'm doing!!).

I made a lion cake for dd's first birthday a couple of month's ago. It's the second time in my life I've tried that roll out icing stuff. I'll see if I can get a photo online.

I used the roll out stuff for the main face and then butter icing forked like JackieNO suggests. I think it worked ok. ALthough I was hoping dd would see it and say "grrrrrrr". She said "Baaa".

I've put a photo of dd's cake on the member's profile section: here

I made a bear cake for DS once. I hired a tin (50p per day) from a local cake-baking shop which was bear shaped, then covered it in choc butter icing (using JackieNo's 'rough it up' technique) with choc buttons for the paws and various other decorations and piped icing for eyes, ears, nose etc.

You could possibnly use crumbled choc flake for fur, if you felt like it.

I must admit that my cake looked a bit like a brown blob.
