NO!!! Please don't Pennies! Shellfish of any kind is not recommended to children under the age of 5 (well, that's the guidelines we have at nursery)!

not sure. do you know if they have an allergy? but you wont till you try will you!!
Cant think why not aslong as they are prepared properly as I am sure they will be!!

Auntymandy · 27/08/2006 17:24

really!!

Auntymandy · 27/08/2006 17:27

any help?

No shellfish is allowed for children under 24 months. If you give a child a food that they aren't ready for it can cause problems and possibly they will develop an allergy to it.

waiting til 5 is bit drastic isn't it. I understand that for children in daycare but not to give prawns or mussels to your own child seems a little strange. I perhaps would hold off until about 1 year until their eating patterns are established. Maybe.

My DS has been eating prawns and smoked salmon and anchovies since he was about 18 months.

No problems, he is now 5.

Auntymandy · 27/08/2006 18:01

says prawns ok from 6 months unless family history of allergy

Both my children love shellfish and have done since they were tiny. HOWEVER, I have since been told - by a paediatrician - that they shouldn't have praqwns particularly til at least 2. Apparantly they've got too much iodine which is bad for the development of the thyroid. Too late for mine - hope haven't done something awful to them!
