... further to that thread about why do you bother feeding a 19=month-old... I tried DS with eggy bread yesterday and I've never seen him stuff his face with such gusto. OK it's not the heealthiest thing ever, but it did get some protein down him. In case you don't know how to make it...

  • get 2 slices white (ideally) bread, cut off crusts and cut into quarters
  • dip in beaten eggg to cover both sides of each bit
  • sprinlke with light smattering of brown sugar and cinnamon (optional, but makes it yummier)
  • fry gently on both sides till egg is cooked through
  • allow to cool, cut into smaller bits if necessary.

Yuuuum.

DD adores eggy bread - so do I to be honest. But we don't have it sweet - savoury for us without the sugar and cinnamon. I am lazy too as I leave the crusts on and don't cut it up till served.

Eggy bread without the sweet stuff is surely pretty healthy, yes?

suzywong · 26/08/2006 11:02

it IS healthy

It's protein and fibre, don't knock it, If that's what he'll eat then HUZZAH

good for you

of course you do realise now you have posted this he will cease to eat it forthwith

snowleopard · 26/08/2006 11:04

Well it's not green veg - the other thing I have trouble getting him to eat - but I gave him avocado with it and he was so excited about the eggy bread that he ate quite a lot of that too

I only used a tiny bit of sugar - might try it without next time, but keep the cinnamon as DS seems to like spicy tastes.

another alternative (although maybe only for special occasions) is fairy bread. Butter the bread, cut into shapes & dip in 100's & 1000's. It's quite popular with all ages here in Oz. DD loves it. Her Great-grandmother came for afternoon tea today and they were both eating it!!

OK now I feel my eggy bread was quite healthy!

i just had eggy bread made with brioche for my breakfast, sprinkled with sugar..yum yum.

littleducks · 28/08/2006 21:35

i learnt how to make it at girl guide camp, we used to have savuory crusts on with little bit of ketchup, or lemon and sugar on top like pancakes if you were fussy. yummy.

tassis · 28/08/2006 21:41

we serve it with ketchup not sugar and cinnamon...

not claiming that's healthy or anything, but ds and I do love it

mumfor1standfinaltime · 28/08/2006 21:47

Wow, will be trying this with ds. I can't seem to get him to eat bread. He will only eat it as toast!
He may like this. Will try it for brekkie, thanks snowleopard!

We have it with bacon and maple syrup. Or strawberries and maple syrup. Both delicious - no health claims though!
