Just looking at buying a slow cooker. The one i like the look of is 3.5 litre but you can get bigger ones so I'm not sure if this one will be big enough. Could i cook a chicken in it? How many portions (generous) of stew could it make?

I want one that has a wearing pan in it and I want it to be red if possible to match my kettle/toaster so any recommendations greatly received too.

Searing not wearing!

Big enough to put in a whole chicken and close the lid properly is my way of measuring.

So I guess it depends on what size chicken you buy. I would certainly look in person rather than just online so that you can see what 3.5 litres means in practice

Yeah I'm being lazy aren't I! Ive just thought though, my stock pot is 5l and i think id struggle to get more than a medium sized chicken in that so 3.5l definitely too small. Think i need to visit currys before i buy.....

I have two, one will take a chicken or a leg of lamb, the other is much smaller for stews.

I use a 6.5l one to cook a 2.5kg chicken.
I have a large family and for stews/casseroles etc I usually fill it half way and it's just enough for us all to have a decent sized serving.

If you haven't already purchased one, have a look on amazon at the andrew james range. We bought the 8l one as we were cooking a beef stifado for 11 and wanted to transport it without massive spillage. I think it was less than £40 and is bloody brilliant. Grin
