HOW DO I ADD FLAVOURS TO POPCORN??

Hi, I've dug out our popcorn maker (yes, I'd run out of ideas of what to do with the kids!).

Instead of boring, old, plain popcorn how do I add flavour, you know like the popcorn you can buy in the cinema, sweet or toffee.

Has anyone any ideas please?

to make a really nice not too sweet popcorn I tend to put it in a plastic tub while still warm and add some icing sugar and give it a good shake. Also try adding a couple of drops of food colouring - kids love it and the younger ones like threading it to make edible necklaces etc

Thanks SewingMadMummy, I didn't have any icing sugar in my cupboard, so obviously when I put normal granulated sugard on it, it all fell to the bottom. The food colouring is a great idea! Thanks!

I don't have a popcorn amker but do you have to put oil in it??

BROWNY · 25/08/2006 19:28

Hi, no - you just pour the kernals into it and switch on - 3 minutes later lovely, hot popcorn. I wonder how you make toffee flavour, without all the mess?

When I make popcorn I use a pan [with lid!!!] and put in 2 tbsp veg oil and anything else I want - sugar/salt and have even tried seasonings!! the popcorn is then cooked and coated at the same time... provided you shake the pan!!!

Any more ideas on how to add flavouring please?

when i used to make popcorn with my popcorn maker i used to make the popcorn then i used to warm up in a pan sugar n maple syrup or golden syrup then pour it in the bowl with the popcorn and mix it up then pour it out on to a baking tray and bake it in oven for about 10 mins till it goes brown n not sticky then take it off and put it back in the bowl enjoy tasty popcorn
i got this recipe out of the book i got with my popcorn maker
i ant got a clue how muck of things i just moved house dont even know what box my books r in lol

You don't... you get a tin of golden syrup and pour iy over a bowl of the stuff and then you sit down in private and try and eat it without it trickling down your chin and when some one noyices that the golden syrup is missing, start practicing that innocent looking face.

I of course would never dream of doing such a disgusting thing?

hunkermunker · 26/08/2006 12:48

Bunglie!

How are you? Apart from all sticky from golden syrup

Bunglie · 26/08/2006 12:57

UHG! Drinking cranberry juice again...

I hate the stuff but it does work.

Any nurses out there who can tell me how not to get an infection in a supra - pubic catheter, I use SubyG washouts to no avail?

How are you my dearest Hunkermonker....(Bunglie tries to act posh)?

hunkermunker · 26/08/2006 13:01

Oh dear - cranberry juice not fun to drink through necessity, though I quite like it occasionally. Makes your teeth feel weird, I find. Hope it does the trick!

I'm OK, DS2 having an unusually long sleep (and not woken by the ice cream van that's just tunelessed loudly past our house!), DS1 out with DH at Focus doing boy things.

rabbitrabbit · 26/08/2006 13:20

Nicest one I ever made was with honey and sesame seeds-yum! Make the popcorn, add a tbsp of honey and sprinkle the seeds.

BROWNY · 27/08/2006 11:53

Thanks everyone, thinking that maybe I should eat the sticky, syrup coated popcorn in the bath though.

Bunglie, have you tried cranberry tablets from Holland & Barratt, I used to suffer a lot from kidney infections and cystitis but I haven't had an attack since taking them. Hope you feel better soon
