Anyone got a yoghurt maker?

I'm going to buy a yoghurt maker, trying to find one with a single large container that is glass rather than plastic - has anyone got one - or shall I just give in and get plastic?

I'm not eating dairy at present, so am planning to make almond milk or coconut milk yoghurt, Anyone had any success at these?

You can use a slow cooker if you have one - no plastic! You can also use a large thermos flask.

I have this

I love it. I bought it in Hobbycraft and buy the flavour sachets from there too. It's probably cheaper to get flavours elsewhere but I love these ones so don't go anywhere else.

It's so easy to make and the container is easy cleaning.

Watching.

Yes and sadly it sits untouched at the back of the supboard! I think cos we don't actually eat it that often, mine makes a litre at a time and with no preservatives it doesn't last...nice idea but didn't suit us as a family - it'll be ebayed soon!

fivecups I'd be interested to hear whether it does. I'd wondered whether the bacteria need the kind of sugars in animal milk but don't know.

I've got the easyyo one they sell them on QVC.

My DH heats it all up in a pan, lets it cool and then leaves it in a food flask overnight.

I keep meaning to do this with non dairy milks as Coyo is so expensive!
I have looked it up on the internet.
One thing to remember though is that you can use almond milk and coconut milk but not the type you have in the fridge, eg Koko, Ecomil etc.
Almond milk needs to be home made and pure, which is basically just almonds and water blended, or you can use tinned coconut milk.

i have the lakeland one. i use it regularly and the yogurt keeps for 5 days no problem. its nice and creamy and thick. you do this by adding a bit of milk powder at the start - as suggested on a post here.

whats wrong with plastic - thats what mine is

I make it in the warming cupboard of my range. Before I had a range, I used the airing cupboard.

Simmered milk, cooled to blood temperature, live natural yoghurt stirred in, covered & left overnight then strained to make it thicker.

I use the whey in soup.

I've made my own (df & sf) version of coyo yoghurt, it turned out quite well (on the 5th attempt!). Put a tin of coconut milk in the fridge, it will thicken into cream on the top & a watery bit at the bottom - do not use the watery bit (it separates out again later & only turns the yoghurt runny if you mix it in again at the end, chuck it in a curry or fruit smoothie instead).
Put the cream in a pan & heat gently, mix in some honey & a thickener (cornflour mixed into a paste first) and stir out any lumps. Add the contents of 3 capsules of these as your yoghurt starter (it'll feed off the honey) and mix well. Put in your yoghurt maker (I've got a heated one with 4 small (portion sized) glass jars), I do this bit over night, then into the fridge in the morning for a final 'firm' and that's your df/sf yoghurt!

This was the yoghurt maker I bought, no idea who stocks it currently, but it's ideal for my two little boys. The yoghurt will keep for easily 3/4 days, I make it once a week or so.
I've even been known to crush up a calcium tablet and mix that in too, although the final yoghurt needs a splodge of jam on these occasions :-)

I also have the easyio from Lakeland and love it.

Just made a Greek yogurt with vanilla pods and everyone from 7 month old, to toddler and DH loved it.

I really like the fact I can make yogurt taste the way it should, not laden with sugar or horrid sweetener taste.

Forgot to say, easyio say it lasts two weeks but never had that problem in this house Grin

Thanks for the messages. I've bought one now, just need to get the starter now.
