Usually I make a basic Mary Berry sponge with cocoa in it which is ok but doesn't melt in your mouth or anything. Dd says it has to be chocolate again tomorrow. Never get to do anything exciting cake-wise. So found a recipe which uses 4 eggs, 200g chocolate, 200g ground almonds and sugar.

Is that right? No flour? Not sure if it's going to work out.

Does anyone have a really delicious chocolate cake recipe they could share?

Some cakes dont, bakewell tart has almonds instead of flour.
try it if it doesnt work then dont bother again. What do you fill it with? try buttercream, add a bit of cream of milk to the butter, whisk it then add icing sugar, cocoa and bit of vanila.

LP sounds nice. You don't fill this cake apparently, looking at the photo. Don't think it rises that much so it isn't a thick cake. You melt more chocolate with butter and coat it with that.

Have to have a cake for Saturday - big day.

you could just go with a sponge you know works for you and then add to it.
some others to try
vanlla sponge with mascaponi and strawberrys
choc cake with coffee/vanilla buttercrream
a cake that works for someone else might not work for you.

Or you could fill it with buttercream or cream and still melt choc on it, try adding a bit of cream to your choc.

thought of another
choc or coffee sponge with whit choc frosting
6oz w choc
3oz us butter
4oz icing sugar
90ml doudle cream

melt butter and choc, add icing sugar, add whipped double cream.
stir now and then till cool, it is a filling and icing. now i want to make one.

Do you know I enjoy the baking more than eating the results (luckily), whereas I HATE cooking unless I have all the time in the world, Frank Sinatra CD on to sing along to and something very adventurous to tackle.

Actually I bought white chocolate for the icing thinking it would look a bit friendlier for a children's cake. That frosting sounds good, might try that. Does it harden or stay soft?

hardens slightly around the edges but the middle stays soft and yummy!
I love cooking and baking, but i do eat the results, good job i am bf a 4 month old.

Putting a chopped up mars bar in with the mixture is quite nice!

One of my favourite cakes is chocolate mint cake - half a victoria sponge is flavoured with peppermint essence (not too much though) & then the other half is chocolate - sandwich together with jam or butter icing & cover with chocolate (or butter icing, but this tends to be a bit sickly)

How did your cake go?
