HELP please! Need a gluton free dessert idea for tomorrow!

A bit stuck for ideas. We have friends coming round for food and drinks and as we're stuck for space & don't have a big enough dining table, we're trying to make food you only need a side plate for - we're doing lots of smaller bits and it's going to be Mexican.

So, I need a dessert idea please! Needs to be gluton free and ideally something that can be picked up with your fingers from a big platter or plate in the middle of the table.

Thanks!

Cheesecake? Gluten free digestive biscuits and Cadbury Philly. Made it a few times in a rush. Its laverly.

Mini fruit pavlovas?
fruit kebabs with chocolate dipping sauce?
Some sort of mousse in individual pots?

Fruit salad would be good after spicy food and you could serve with mini merange

Eton mess with small bowls?

Nigella's tangerine/clementine cake (can also be made with lemons)

Schmee - I was going to recommend that too - it is so delicious!

Or you could get some gluten-free biscuits and use them to make a cheesecake base, then top it with the following mixture:

1 large tin condensed milk, a similar amount of double cream - whip together and add the juice and zest of two lemons or three limes (maybe a bit more, depending on how large and juicy the lemons/limes are). The acid in the citrus makes the cream and condensed milk mix set to a cheesecake sort of consistency - you can slice it easily - but needs no cooking - just pour it onto the base, and leave to set in the fridge.

I do this with ginger biscuits, because I think ginger and lemon or ginger and lime are lovely combinations - I don't know if you can get gluten free gingernuts, but maybe you can.

Thanks all!

Liking the sound of mini lemon cheesecakes if I can get gluton free biscuits. But not sure I have enough ramekins.

Thought about doing tart versions in ready made mini cases but not sure I'll find gluton free versions of those...

hi, I'm gluten free and make gluten free cheesecake base made out of blended nuts and dates it's yum. Recipe is on my blog. Also there are recipes for gluten free choc brownies, and gluten free beetroot chocolate fairy cakes. Would be good for bite sized puds. Here's the link if you're interested. mydaughterwontsleep.com/gfrecipes/

I'm liking the idea of gluton free food. I'm a glutton Grin

Anything mousse like, dairy based is usually fine.
If you want biscuit based/cake based things then just substitute gluten free flour. You can get it most places these days

Nigellas squidgy chocolate log is great as the cake is made from egg. It's flour free.

slackcabbage · 25/04/2014 17:13

Some good ideas here

slackcabbage · 25/04/2014 17:17

Sorry, scroll down for chocolate cake recipes (like the look of rhubarb pie cake too but perhaps doesn't go as well with Mexican as chocolate!)

BarbaraWoodlouse · 25/04/2014 17:23

Glutton free deserts surely an oxymoron Pag Grin

A risk of Nigella overload, her flourless chocolate brownies are my go-to gluten free option. Maybe not after Mexican though?

Off to browse your blog Caroline. MIL is coeliac and would be great to store up some good brownie alternatives. (Somewhat ironically my iPad just tried to correct "great" to "bread" Hmm)

It appears DH completely forgot our conversation from this morning about me sorting pud and has bought a load of posh chocs from Hotel Chocolat. Luckily I phoned him about something else just before paying for a basket full of ingredients just now Grin

I hope it'll be OK. We have plenty of booze and the Mexican stuff is fairly light, fresh and zesty, but plenty of it.

The good news is though it's saved me a job and DH is doing aaaaaaaall of the rest of the cooking himself.

Bookmarking all of this for the next time though. Thanks again!

You can find recipes online got naturally gluten free polenta cakes (some require baking powder but this can be bought gluten free too). You can flavour it how you like. Lemon, lemon and rosemary, orange and cardamom, the list is endless!!! Have a google.
