Food processor type appliance needed - where do I begin?

Help! I've decided that my hand held whizzer thing is not meeting my needs anymore and I think I need a food processor (assuming I have the right name!). I would like the be able to: whizz up smoothies and soup, make humous, cakes (not bread) and maybe chop some veg. Don't need any meat type attachments and ideally want something small that can be washed in the dishwasher. I have no idea where to begin so any suggestions much appreciated.

IMO something that will whiz up smoothies is different to something to beat cake batter with. If your hand blitzer is still working keep it for your liquids and I would use food processor for chopping veg and making pastry and a mixer (even a small hand held one is ok) for cakes and breads. My toys I can pull apart and put all the bits in the dishwasher

I use a handheld whizzer for soup, a little Magimix chopper for hummus etc and a Kitchenaid for cake/bread.
Magimix is great and gets used the most often - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0007R8OKY/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/279-3295800-7566650
I don't think you're meant to put the bowl etc in the dishwasher but I do.

I have something akin to this - the jug bit does the liquidising (soups, smoothies etc) and the larger bowl the chopping. Mine is quite big, but easy enough to wash

Forgot to add that the bowl can aloe manage cakes and bread with the dough hook attachment

I have three pieces of equipment that I think cover all the bases

  1. Hand-held mixer (K-Mix) for whipping up cakes, cream, meringues etc
  2. Hand blender for soups, smoothies & purees. Has a mini food processing attachment for blitzing small amounts e.g. hummus
  3. Magimix processor for heavy duty chopping, grating, slicing, making dough or blitzing larger amounts.

Kenwood Prospero ticks all these boxes, it is a compact stand mixer with food processor and blender attachments. Got mine two years ago and use it all the time. There are different models with different attachments. Prospero.

I used to have a Magimix style FP with blender attachments, but it was not as good as the Prospero for cakes, dough, whipping cream etc.

Keen to have one thing that does everything if possible, ideally something that sits on the side ready to use so it isn't a faff to get out and plug in etc. Like the look of the Prospero so will check that out thanks.

I should add that as well as the Prospero I have a stick blender which I tend to use for soup, as I don't like putting it in the blender when it's hot.

The only drawback I would say with the Prospero is that although the main mixer sits out on the counter you need to have somewhere handy to store all the attachments (FP, blender, blades, beaters etc). Also with the FP and blender attachments it is very high, I have to pull mine out to the front of the counter for these as it is below a cupboard, but can use it at the back as a stand mixer.
