Do you make your own pasta?

If so, is it time consuming? Does it taste better than the dried stuff? I'm tempted to by a pasta machine so that I can make ravioli etc, but I'm not sure if it's a novelty and the machine will be used once before being stored.

Thanks

I do occasionally make my own pasta - I have a lovely recipe for crab ravioli. Lasagne made with really thin, fresh pasta is sublime!

I went on a cookery holiday to Italy about 7 years ago and learnt to make pasta there, can back home full of enthusiasm but the idea of a probably right handed hand cranked pasta machine was just too much - the perfect excuse for a kitchen aid with pasta attachment! Then both hands are free!

Wow, I can't believe I've had my kitchen aid for seven years!!

I make my own pasta, but not ravioli. I do taglitelli or spaghetti mostly and often have it when I've got a glut of courgettes or tomatoes in the garden. Plain with sage butter is truly scrumptious. Mmm I want some now.

I don't find it too much of a faff - making the dough is really just minutes and if you 'knead' it using the machine (as Jamie O suggests) that speeds things up.

I also keep chickens so I use my own eggs. It's all so fresh it is pretty delish I have to admit Grin

I go through phases when I don't touch my machine and then will use it every few days for weeks.
