Tin foil and cling film - good quality and value
Most cleaning products
Stir in pasta sauce for quick kids tea - 89p
Chocolate brioche loaf was lovely
Their own Go-Ahead type biscuits - 89p and more fruit than the original
Would avoid ready meals
Own brand hair spray - looks like Elnette
Portable DVD players - 3 year warranty and they do repair/replace!
Enjoy!

stardusty5 · 22/04/2014 13:09

The frozen duck/lamb in sauce packs.

Delicious!

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/04/2014 13:10

All of it.

I even use the ultra cheap rice & pasta.

BuzzardBird · 22/04/2014 13:25

IMPORTANT!
They don't take credit cards in England. Take your own bags.
You must try their giant garlic and herb prawns £4.99 or £5.99 depending on store I have found. They are the greatest thing ever to go on a BBQ.
Moser Roth is palm oil free and delicious.
You must visit the 'aisles of enlightenment' because they sometimes have some great food items in there that you might miss.
The quilted toilet roll, washing gel, dishwasher tablets, Maris Piper oven chips the belgian chocolate frozen cheesecake is always in my freezer for emergency dessert (heaven). Ham trimmings are really good value if you use a lot of carved ham.
Their hair dye is actually the only one I have ever found (and I've tried them all) that dyes white hairs.
Mussels, smoked salmon are lovely and the beef wellingtons (although don't like the sauce pouch.)
The Prosecco is nice but prefer the Lidl one by far.
Flowers are cheap and last really well. Florist friend of mine recommended those.
The passata is always recommended on here.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/04/2014 13:28

If you buy the ikea shopping bags off amazon you don't even have to pack, just chuck it all in.

£5 off aldi shop in the mirror/record this Thursday.

Linskibinski · 22/04/2014 13:29

Check out the breaded Camembert pack of 4 in the chiller bit, they are fab. The cheapo fresh oj in what looks like a milk carton is fab and very cheap. Yy to the wine. Tinned Chopped toms are fab and cheaper than anywhere else. The cheesy puff crisps are lovely wotsits. In all honesty buy everything, you will still save a fortune. as long as you stay away from the dangerous middle aisle of treasures Grin

Oddthomas · 22/04/2014 13:31

Middle aisle will all be baby stuff this week; baby event starts on Thursday :)

Perfectly-timed thread, thankyou OP! Our Aldi opens on Thursday and I'm just a bit too excited Grin

ErrolTheDragonsEgg · 22/04/2014 13:38

Oh yes their Moser Roth 85% dark chocolate is fab and it comes in 5 pieces, each one perfect coffee break size

my DH goes to Aldi specifically for that - he might pick up a load of loo rolls or suchlike at the same time. Oh, and also he stocks up on their razor blades - way cheaper than Gilette and he says they're better and last longer.

growingolddicustingly · 22/04/2014 13:40

Chocolate covered rice cakes - 99p and I can kid myself that they are a healthy treat.

admiralclingus · 22/04/2014 13:53

The Chinese style pork belly chops were yum.

Not a fan of pig products at the best of times, but even for a non liker, these were pretty yum and only about £2 for 4 (2 meals for me and dd!)

Tried the IKEA bag trick on my last shop, but bought far too much stuff (£100! Shock I didn't think it was possible in aldi!) So the method failed!

The monster munch type crisps, better than real monster munch!

Don't buy the harvest morn chocolate museli type cereal!!! Pretty much just a box of chocolate with a handful oif oaty cluster things thrown in as an afterthought! one bowl left me feeling ick!

PrimalLass · 22/04/2014 14:08

PrimalLass your 6 yr old would cry? Why?

Because she is somewhat food phobic.

PrimalLass · 22/04/2014 14:08

FFS, wrong thread.

Moogdroog · 22/04/2014 14:10

The great:
Nappies and wipes, Skincare, Dishwasher tabs, chocolate, Cereal, especially the muesli in the little box, jam, cheese, fruit and veg (but inspect closely as they don't seem to be so good at stock rotation), baking stuff, wine
Not so great:
Coffee, basmati rice - but I'm vv fussy about those.

I'm a reformed Sainsburys Taste the Difference shopper and I pretty much get everything there now.

LucilleBluth · 22/04/2014 14:12

Stay away from the middle isles of shite.....you do not need a set of screwdrivers, a wetsuit or a singing dog bowl.

Other than that, wine, cheese, chocolate, deli meats, sweet pots, baby corn and asparagus FAB.

Salad stuff, washing powder, ketchup, not great.

BackforGood · 22/04/2014 14:36

Probably too late for OP, but may be in time for CakeExpectations

Remember your own bags
They have the quickest till operators known to man - don't try and pack at the till (unless as some do you have a giant IKEA type bag and are happy to throw everything in) - you just throw everything back into the trolley, then take your trolley to the shelf at the end and pack in your own time (or your trolley out to your car and pack straight into your boot). It sounds strange, and is odd at first, but trust us, it's SO much quicker this way.
They don't usually take credit cards - take your debit card

Most things are great - only thing we don't like is the tinned raviolli / beans / spag type stuff.
Dishwasher tablets and washing powder always wins 'Which' awards.

3lovelykids · 22/04/2014 14:38

Hunters chicken Grin

MrsGarvey · 22/04/2014 14:39

Steak - both the rump and sirloin were good. Free range chicken. The 85% chocolate. Maple syrup.

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 22/04/2014 14:39

Ive been!!!! thanks for all the suggestions. Its so fucking quiet in there tho?! that must have been the most relaxed shopping experience ever, even with a 3 and 6 year old in tow. Your all quite right nots of nice things, the middle aisle is clearly full of tosh that you look at and put down saying, you dont need that. Dont think i could quite manage a full shop here though. I think ill stock up every 2 weeks on tins and packet stuff , meat that can be chucken in freezer. Its a 32 mile round trip and the nearest actual bog standard supermarket is a 16 mile round trip. Damit living rurally.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/04/2014 15:01

Ooh yes we had the steaks last week, even dh liked them.

£3.50 for a 10oz rump Shock

CakeExpectations · 22/04/2014 15:02

Thanks BackforGood. I'll go prepared!

Deathraystare · 22/04/2014 15:26

I've happily bought and enjoyed their own version of Arametto (is that the right word??). Several other spirits and some wine. I love their chocolates. Their stollen is YUM. My friend got a floor lamp cheaply and I got one of those things that looks like a walkman, whereby you play cassettes onto the computer. Worked fine. They have garden stuff, flowers etc.

Oh and a friend told me (as she gets them for her Aunt) that they do great versions of Lady Tena. Just sayng.

When I was able to get to Aldi I used to get milk powder, tomato puree and stock cubes from there. Pasta sauce and Loo roll too. Had to buy some chocolate too!!!
