DS is 2.5 seems to be giving up daytime sleep, he gets very tired by 5pm so I have to feed him by 515 or he will be too tired to eat. However he has been waking at 6am starving hungrey, but still tired. I previously gave him supper closer to 6-630 just wondered what is the normal routine. I am thinking of introducing a bedtime snack but hard to think of something nutritious for that time eg; not biscuits or toast any thoughts would be gratefully recieved (this is my first post)

DD (4y4m) eats at 6:30pm, with me and DH - pretty mucha s soon as DH gets in from work. She has normally had a light snack around 3ish - at nursery, or I have started giving one too.

Piffle · 23/08/2006 18:27

my 3 yr old if she naps in the afternoon tends to eat later say 7pm with us
Most days she does without her nap and needs feeding by 6pm for dinner at 7pm.
If our dinner is suitable for her then it'll be ready by 6 like tonight.
other days she has something else, quick like pasta or something I@ve perviously frozen for her.
Macaroni cheese always gave the best nights sleep in my opinion

chocybickie · 23/08/2006 18:29

5 o'clock usually. I don't eat anything later than that. The boys are in bed by 7.30 so I don't want to give them a full meal just before they go to sleep.

NomDePlume · 23/08/2006 18:29

On weekdays

DD eats on her own (I'm sat with her or pottering around in the kitchen) at around 4.30 - 5.30pm.

DS1 (14), DS2 (12.5), DH and I all eat together at around 7.30pm-8pm once DD has gone to bed.

Weekends we all eat together at around 5-6ish

NomDePlume · 23/08/2006 18:30

DD is 4.

roisin · 23/08/2006 18:32

DSs are 7 and 9; they have tea at 5 or 5.30, sometimes even earlier! We usually have our main meal in the middle of the day iyswim.

ComeOVeneer · 23/08/2006 18:32

How about banana and a glass of milk before bed time?

hermykne · 23/08/2006 18:46

LIZS · 23/08/2006 18:48

nikkie · 23/08/2006 19:30

5-5.30 usually , has been later this hols as evrything else is later.
I usually eat later after they are in bed

noonar · 23/08/2006 19:50

6pm, although I aim for 5.30, bt never manage it.

we sometimes have cereal at bedtime if tea is early.

AllieBongo · 23/08/2006 19:53

Wow !thanks all. My precious angel is now in bed. Seems 5-515 is on the early side of normal then. Thanks for the suggestion COV we do try to give him milk before bed how much he drinks is v.variable but had two beakers tonight so fingers crossed. Am thinking now could try tea at 4.45 play, bath at 6 and then snack in pj's with daddy at 630 then stories. Thanks for the mac and cheese tip will try it tommorow!

Ds is 2.10 and eats 5-5:30. The main meal, though, is at midday. He's in bed at 7:30

jowen · 23/08/2006 20:08

Porridge is an excellant snack for toddlers IMO - nutritious and easy to eat.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 23/08/2006 20:15

dds are older than yours but during the week they often have their tea 5-ish and they definitely need a snack before bed - oatcake and a slice of cheese, marmite sandwich, banana - and they nearly always have a glass of milk. nothing wrong with toast btw.

naughtymummy · 23/08/2006 20:23

Nope I agree nothing wrong with toast just thinking of toast and jam do n't want it to be too much of a sweet treat as so close to tea (usually his best meal). Excellent suggestions porridge might be really good on cold autum evenings (like tonight)

Ds is finished eating by around 6pm and has nothing then until breakfast. Even when he ate at 5pm he still lasted.

Toast is nutritious if it's just to ensure he is totally full before bedtime.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 23/08/2006 20:52

yes, toast and jam - definitely too much sugar just before bedtime - toast and marmite or cream cheese would be ok.

nappyaddict · 23/08/2006 21:14

i would aim for 6:30- 7. if you don't want him going to bed on a full stomach how about an afternoon snack?

naughtymummy · 01/09/2006 21:21

Do n't know if any of you are still watching this thread just wanted to say thanks for alll your advice. Sadly it looks as if nap is gone for good (only slept once in last week on monday between 4-5pm not ideal was with my mum). However I have found that the answear is restricting snacks in afternoon, supper at 530 then a break / bath then something milky, thanks for porridge suggestion have also tried semollina made with pears, and rice pudding again fruit sweetened bit of a hassle but has been going down 730 and sleeping till 7-730 so MUCH better also wakes up happy and not desperate for weetabix.
