Need reassurance that this is just a phase

didn't want to post on weaning as dd is 14mths, we are going thro what i hope is a phase. At every mealtime she is taking a few spoonfuls of food and then shaking her head vigorously and refusing to eat anything else (she won't even touch desert which she normally loves) I noticed that she wanted to feed herself so I have been giving her a spoon but even thats not really doing much good.

I give her snacks thro the day but i'm careful now not to let her snack continuously all day (which i did do ), I suppose I'm worried as she has had problems gaining weight, been on special milk and sees a dietician at my local hospital (we are due another appt early sept)

Anyone experienced this, I thought it might be coz she is getting more independant?

Probably a phase... and yes, think has a lot to do with independence. Do you give her plenty of finger food?

You could try being busy with something else after a couple of mouthfuls, so she's not getting any attention by not eating.

don't know if it'll work fo ryou, but leaving ds to it helped yesterday when he turned his nose up at the fishcakes I have slaved over and that he had eaten quite happily about a month ago...I left them in front of him and wandered across the room to do some washing up, feeling very despondent that he didn't wnat them, turned round to pput soemthing in cupboard and spotted him grapsing fish cake in both hands munching away! He didn't eat much, and chucked most of his pudding on the floor and in his hair, but was fine...

Hows her teething situation? Could it be that her gums are sore?

well we have had a few bad nights with her so it could be that, had a bit more success at teatime but i know not to take anything for granted where children are concerned will see how things go
