Who here has a roast dinner on Sundays?

Another thread got me thinking. Do most people still do this? Every week, or just sometimes? I occasionally cook a veggie roast in the winter, but not specifically on a Sunday, and never in the daytime.

Are you all washing sprouts, or having a sandwich like us?

We do nearly every Sunday.

Today's was:-

Chicken studded with Sage.
Roast Potato's
Roast Sweet Potato's
Carrot's
Green Beans from the Garden
Cauliflower
Yourkshires
and Gravy

Followed by homemade rhubarb and apple crumble and cornish ice cream.................. I am stuffed!

Just started again after a brief summer break - love 'em, have them every Sunday at teatime (except when on holiday).

We have one every Sunday, b/c then we've got something roasted to nibble on for lunch for the rest of the week.

I like to roast a big pan of veg, too, to use as a base for soups, stews, pies, etc.

I do a roast every sunday, the kids love them, just finished ours, it was yummy!!

I'm stuffed! just finished roast chicken with roast pots, mash, carrots, brocoli and stuffing (in crispy balls, just like my mum always did) and home made banana ice cream with strawberries.

Wasn't it a sketch in Little Britain where the voice over said there is a law in Britain which states one must have roast every Sunday?

We have one most Sundays during Autumn and Winter, usually at about 6 pm. The children at times have one mid-week.

As others have said, when I was a child we had a roast virtually every Sunday lunchtime. I always looked forward to it and when my mum comes to stay we try to do the same.

Only time we ever have a proper Sunday dinner is if we got out - either to a restaurant/pub or to one of our parents. No point at home - I don't eat meat, and a roast is too big for DH and DD alone. besides we are normally out and about in Sundays. Eat our bigger meals during the week in the evenings.

Used to have a sSunday roast every week when little; as did DH. Now even our parents don't bother unles they have visitors.

Just had Roast beef, carrots, roasties (for the first time in months because it's cold today) beans from the garden and brocolli. Was delicious and I didn't have to cook it!

We always have Roast Chicken on a Friday too, either with salad and new potatoes in summer or roast veg in winter.

Beauregard · 20/08/2006 22:40

We had our first one this year today ,but i have to say it was a roast without the roast iynwim.
Cherry pie and custard for pudding !

Mercy · 20/08/2006 22:44

LOL at Harpsichordcarrier's dd!

Totally agree Sobernow - I can't stand it around Christmas time and lots of people say they are having "turkey and all the trimmings". It makes me think of all sorts of revolting bits and pieces. Claws, beak etc

Beauregard · 20/08/2006 22:47

Mercy-i had never thought of it like that before (yuk)good job im vege!

2shoes · 20/08/2006 22:51

Mercy · 20/08/2006 23:10

I didn't spot that one earlier - LOL!!!

Maybe it's the vegan version of a Sunday roast. Hmmmm, all that yummy fibre.

laudaud · 21/08/2006 08:46

Used to have sunday roast regularly but recently have replaced it with bangers and mash and lots of yummy gravy - will have a roast these days if we go out to the pub for lunch
