Please can anyone let me know what cereals are ok for a 19 month old?
Always thought all cereal was ok - but now realise some are packed with sugar.
any suggestion - thanks

DD likes any ceraels. For nursery I always just send a little multi-pack box. At home she usually has Weetabix or Ready Brek, and tried to pinch DH's coco pops - he's a big kid with his ceraels.

Oh dear my ds has honey nut cornflakes and shredded wheat. Probably the ones with the most sugar in. Mind you im just glad she eats!

Furball · 16/03/2004 21:33

This morning DS (2 1/2) insisted and definately would not take no for and answer that he had fruit and fibre this morning, mixed in with abit of Crunchy Oat Museli, shut him up took him ages to get through

Normally has hot shreddies and will quite happily have these for every meal if I let him. Occasionally he will have Porridge or Ready Brek

Hulababy · 16/03/2004 21:36

LOL Furball.

Breakfast is DD's favourite meal, and she eats loads given the chance. She even asks for ceraels during the day.

I still puree apple for ds twins(aged 26 months) but I then mix it into their oatmeal in the morning. If they are having rice crispies or weetabix I chop in some banana or sprinkle on raisins. They have loved this since they were much younger and it means I get one of the five portions out of the way!

grape nuts have no sugar

princesspeahead · 16/03/2004 22:02

best is porridge - mine have that with a spoonful of golden syrup on top most days. otherwise shreddies,, weetabix etc as suggested. and miniweetabix with raisins on special occasions! (they are a bit more sugary than I like)

gingernut · 16/03/2004 22:11

Grape nuts are inedible though, CD (IMHO!).

ds eats `sheddies', raisin wheats, cranberry wheats and bran flakes, with a few raisins on the top.

roisin · 16/03/2004 22:24

My kids eat loads for breakfast. Standard atm would be a large bowl of porridge with jam, a large bowl of yoghurt followed by a large bowl of fresh fruit salad. ... Hmmm... that does sound a lot doesn't it? Maybe that's why they never say they are hungry!

CountessDracula · 16/03/2004 23:10

I adore Grape Nuts!! You have to leave the milk to soak in a bit. Dd loves them too.

Bozza · 17/03/2004 09:51

DS has either weetabix of porridge (used to do ready brek but more expensive than plain oats) with raisins on top. If not a nursery day will usually also have yoghurt and grapes after.

oliveoil · 17/03/2004 09:54

dd has weetabix or ready brek. I have cravings for cereal at the mo and my current is Fruit and Fibre, v healthy. Also like Crunchy nut cornflakes

Sonnet · 17/03/2004 10:32

My DD's Love Weetabix with a sliced banana on top or porridge.
