One of your five a day - really?

DS1 has come home with a bottle of "fruit cola" purchased from the school canteen (secondary)

The ingredients are 50% fruit juice, carbonated water and a long list of additives and sweetener. It is also marked "One of your five a day"

Really, how can that be a valid claim? I'm sure it does meet the criteria or it wouldn't be on sale but how can that be right? How can such rubbish be sold in our schools as "healthy"?

complain to the head
I thought artificial sweeteners could not be marketed at children.

It's because of the fruit juice it contains - 150ml of pure juice counts as a portion, so if it's a 500ml bottle they can fulfill the legal requirement to label it as such. However whether it is 'healthy' or not is a very different debate and I would be inclined to agree with you that it is far from it.
