cheese and pineapple on sticks. I usually buy a cheap grapefruit, wrap it in kitchen foil and use it to stick them in - bit like a hedgehog.

Jelly and icecream - better get the jelly made quickly though or it will never set.

Take it you've sorted the birthday cake out?

babyonboard · 09/08/2006 10:08

little crackers with cheese/ cheese spread..lots of bowls of cherry tomatoes.ooh and maybe mini samosas/ spring rolls and onion bajhis etc..

Sparkler1 · 09/08/2006 10:09

oh yes and a big bowl of grapes - kids love grapes

Sparkler1 · 09/08/2006 10:10

cut sandwiches out with cookie cutters to make them more interesting?

Orlando · 09/08/2006 10:11

Don't forget drinks!

Cartons less likely to spill than plastic cups.

Sparkler1 · 09/08/2006 10:17

...and just remember, don't go doing too much food. There'll be loads left over and you'll be eating it forever.
Have fun!!!! What sort of party are you having?

babyonboard · 09/08/2006 10:20

wedges of watermelon could be good..and breadsticks with dips..
You could do some mini pizzas too..maybe even get some bases and let the kids put topping on themselves (or is that just too messy!)

oooh I love doing 'party food' ..I can't wait til DS's birthday (I say now..in prospect rather than faced with the reality..lol)

babyonboard · 09/08/2006 10:23

oh just reread and saw it's for 28 kids..I thought you said 8 so scrap that pizza idea..lol!

Its a party booked at our local leisure centre in a great big inflatable area and then a separate room afterwards where they will eat, im hoping it will be a success but at the mo im feeling really stressed!

It will be fine! 28 kids expending lots of energy..having fun..then going home to crash out (resulting in lots of happy parents!) can not be a failure!

Don't stress over it..I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you just presented them with a multipack of wotsits and a few cartons of juice and told them to dig in..lol

Sparkler1 · 09/08/2006 10:32

ah - so you have to think about transporting food there as well - maybe my jelly and icecream suggestion wasn't so good after all!

twinsetandpearls · 09/08/2006 10:34

I love kids parties, dd is next month and it is planned down to the last detail all ready - I know sad but I am on holiday with not a lot too do.

Sandwiches cut with a cookies cutter go down well as do pinwheel sandwiches. You need mediun wholemeal bread, spread with soft cheese or any other soft filling, roll up like a swiss roll and then refridgerate. After a few minutes slice as you would a swiss roll. Kids love these as they are a mouthfull and much less waste than cut out sandwiches.

No party is comeplete without jelly boats, oranges cut in half, fill with jelly leave to set and then cut in half with a serated knife add a rice paper sail on a cocktail stick.

Fruit kebabs, just cut off the sharp ends from your skewers, kids love making these.
