I am pretty sure that it is only unpasteurised in soft cheese that is a problem. I never found any pasteurised parmesan when i was pg.

alexsmum · 05/08/2006 12:41

why the difference between soft and hard cheese? god it's so long since i was preg i just have no idea!

Here the government advice

Been so long since I had pate... only 8 wks to go!

FrannyandZooey · 05/08/2006 12:47

Ah I understand alexsmum. Sorry not to be more helpful I would just use some other strong tasting cheese like a good cheddar, if you are not sure.

FrannyandZooey · 05/08/2006 12:48

Oh that link says hard cheeses are fine. Go for it

Carmenere · 05/08/2006 12:50

If a cheese is older than 20 weeks it is ok because the listeria will not live that long. Most parmesan is aged for at least 18 months so it should be ok.

alexsmum · 05/08/2006 12:53

thank you for that link.helpful.should be ok with the gorgonzola as going to cook it. still not convinced about the parmesan as it's made with unpateurised milk.
think i'll just bung a bit of mature cheddar in!

Davidstow mature cheddar (extra special selection at asda or from the delicatessan at sainsburys) has been my 'on top of spagheetti' replacement while - it's strong but nutty and sweet too - yummy!
