When to stop formula?

My dd is coming up 13 months now, she's still on formula twice a day, mid-morning (6oz) & before bed (5oz). She has full-fat cow's milk with her breakfast cereal, so I know she's fine with cow's milk. Is it OK to switch to cow's milk completely now? And do I stick to those quantities still? I read Gina Ford somewhere about getting rid of bedtime milk slowly... so I'm trying to reduce that.. and stop it eventually. But how much milk does she need in a day now?

She only needs full fat cow's milk. Aprox. 1 pint a day which includes milk used in cooking. A cup of milk going to bed is fine for as long as she wants it. None of my children actually drank that much milk and only one of them drank milk going to bed - the rest didn't have anything. Youngest age stopped bedtime drink was 11 months, oldest 15 months.

We switched to cows milk at a year although both did bfeed am and/or pm for a while after so they had relatively little as a drink. For one thing it is significantly cheaper. dd in particular drank very little milk regardless at that age but would eat yoghurt and cheese to compensate. Many kids have bedtime milk for years to come - ds stopped at around 3.5 and dd is 2.5 and still has about 2 - 3 oz. She in fact drinks more milk over a day now than she did at a year.

Many thanks all for your comments. The thing with my dd is that she will eat/drink anything I give her at any time, so I dont think she will tell me when she wishes to stop her bedtim milk
Looks like it'll be ok for me to gradually stop her bedtime milk from now. Guess I'll just let my last pack of formula run out, and that's it

Lucky you ChocCake! I can't get my dd to drink cow's milk so I'm sort of stuck with formula for the moment. She was breast fed and boy was it a game getting her to even drink formula so I'm afraid of rocking the boat!

Evita - have you thought of introducing the cows milk gradually? If she is having 6oz formula, for example, make up five ounces and then top it up with cows milk. Continue for a week and then make four ounces formula and top up with two ounces cows milk, etc, etc. I am doing this with dd at the mo because my ds had a major reaction when I switched him to cows milk and he ended up on formula until he was two and then straight onto semi-skimmed. I am hoping that this way I will prevent a similar reaction with dd.
