So sooo tired - tell me the quickest and easiest tea that you know

Sitting at work almost asleep after a gruelling few weeks.
Can't even contemplate planning a meal. Can stop at a small supermarket on way home though.

C'mon what's the quickest and easiest tea that won't get me arrested by the health police? I have a DH and a DS (6) to feed.

Veg and potato bake

NoSquirrels · 06/02/2014 16:09

Buy some pizza and salad.

Buy some fresh pasta, sauce and salad.

Buy a readymeal.

Or call for a takeaway.

Or, best option, outsource to your DH and make him responsible for dinner tonight.

I'd probably feed 6yr old beans on toast/egg on toast and get DH to call for a takeaway. If you're so tired you're falling asleep someone needs to look after you!

Stuffed baked potatoes with salad (from a bag)
Minimum cooking time for potatoes if done in microwave (best done in batches of 2 and early batches put in a low oven to keep warm and crisp skin a little.
Top with anything which looks good when you pop into the shop ..... ham & cream cheese / chilli / my children loved baked beans & cheese when young. My favourite is prawns in a little garlic mayo.

Or buy three boxed camembert, salad, a jar of onion marmalade and some nice bread. Bake the camemberts in boxes for 20 mins and serve. Grapes and olives are nice on the side if you have them.

Either way .....fresh fruit for pudding.
And chocolate for the cook.

Pasta with creme fraîche and cheese. Super quick and one of my absolute favourites. Could add some fried mushrooms or some peas or something if you want some veg. Or have a salad with it. Sometimes I mix in some curry sauce to make it a bit different.

SonorousBip · 06/02/2014 16:14

Blimey, I call pasta fussy and long winded.

You need cous cous. Put in bowl. Pour boiling water over. If I'm feeling all Nigella-esque I put a bit of marigold stock in (salt, olive oil, whatever). Add some chopped veg. Sliced cold chicken on top. Poss some pesto or hot sauce. 3 mins. Job's a good 'un!

Super quick sweet and sour chicken

Fry some chicken, onion, garlic and any veg you like. Pour over the vinegar, ketchup and sugar. Serve with rice.

Last night DH did jacket spuds with broccoli and grated cheese. It was surprisingly lovely and the DCs (who normally whinge about jackets) wolfed it down.

Apparently DH used to live on it when he worked shifts many years ago

susiedaisy · 06/02/2014 16:42

Beans on toast with cheese on the top. Sounds boring but is actually delicious. Oh and hp sauce!

MissBattleaxe · 06/02/2014 16:42

Pitta pizzas- put tomato sauce, grated cheese and anything else on top of pitta and bake for ten mins.

My son loves fried sandwiches- not as bad as they sound- make a cheese sandwich and cook it on both sides in a Frying pan- you can use that spray oil or just a dot of sunflower oil. Add ham and it's a Croque Monsieur- French Bistro food in three minutes!

Piggytastic · 06/02/2014 16:44

Egg and beans on toast
Or fish fingers, chips and cucumber sticks/baby tomatoes

frugalfuzzpig · 06/02/2014 17:12

Ooh, if you get tortilla wraps then the fried sandwiches become quesadillas :o

OatcakeCravings · 06/02/2014 17:16

Crisps

CalamitouslyWrong · 06/02/2014 17:20

I'm exhausted so I just chucked some rice with Cajun spice mix and chicken stock in the rice cooker. I'm going to very quickly fry up some chorizo with onions and peppers and serve the whole lot as burritos.

MrsBungle · 06/02/2014 17:22

My can't be arsed to do anything meal is tuna pasta bake with a jar. Put dried pasta, sweet corn, tuna and sauce in an oven dish. Put in oven. Put cheese on top. About 1 minute prep!

frugalfuzzpig · 06/02/2014 17:26

Homepride creamy tomato and bacon pasta bake is nice. It's my standby can't be arsed dish. I usually use Red Leicester on top (halfway through) and bung in frozen veg or tinned sweetcorn at the beginning.

Although tonight my DCs had hotdogs with peas and I'll be having sandwich-filler coronation chicken in a toasted pitta Blush

wordfactory · 06/02/2014 17:28

Cook pasta.
Open jar of good quality pesto.
Stir.

spilttheteaagain · 06/02/2014 18:45

For me it would be microwave some large pots (assuming not enough time to oven them, otherwise do that) and have with beans and cheese.

Or beans on toast if DH not involved, DD and I would be very happy with that.

Or fishfinger sarnie with beans/peas/cherry toms & cucumber

Or if I have it in the freezer, defrost some bolognaise/chilli and just cook some spaghetti or rice.

Spookey80 · 06/02/2014 19:16

Quesadillas-
1 pack of tortillas, grated cheese, hot pan for a few mins each side, cut into chunks.
We usually have with some homemade wedges.
Can add cooked ham, tomatoes, spring onions, cooked chicken, salami, any old thing to the quesadillas if you like.
