Help! Worried first time mummy!

Hi my daughter is 16 months old and is an absolute perfect eater with all foods. Except CHEESE?! Everytime she eats cheese she becomes violently sick. She is drinking full fat milk all the time, no formula mixed. She eats yoghurt, butter (on toast or in a sandwich) and all other dairy products. She only has a reaction to cheese, is it possible to be allergic to just one dairy product? I am only 19 and a first time mummy so rather worried, I will be seeking medical advice too just thought I would ask here too. Thank you all for reading.

Thanks hun. I have never heard of a person being allergic to one part of dairy products without being allergic to all. Confused Sad all I want is my princess to not be so horribly ill just from the smallest amount of cheese :( Thanks

My mum is sick if she eats cheese, but all other dairy is fine for her. Gp will help. Don't worry!

I rmb my sister being the same when she was that age. She never had any problems, my mum just stopped giving it to her and she just grew out of it

Mum just doesn't eat cheese, I think it probably is more psychological now than anything, since it made her sick as a child and she has never really eaten it. Maybe her body can't process it or something.

Conversely I could eat cheese for every meal so it's obviously not a genetic allergy with us! You could try speaking to your Health Visitor, they might have some advice.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 25/01/2014 05:48

The obvious solution (and probably what a GP will tell you) is.... don't give her cheese. Cheese is a processed product containing not just milk but rennet, salt and a few other things. It's very high fat, very acidic and plenty of people find it indigestible. She may be able to eat cheese when she's older but, for now, there are plenty of other foods.

I would not bother. Make a note of it in her Red Book, so you can refer back to the date you noticed there being an issue and what you did to resolve it (no cheese).

You will come across many things that your DD will not eat or drink, everyone is an individual. Things change over time, one moment they eat most veg, then the next they refuse it all. Just go with the flow.

Maybe she just does not like cheese?
It's a possibility seeing that she is fine with milk and other dairy-products. Cheese is an easy enough thing to avoid, so I'd not worry too much. I am not sure how a dr could help tbh.

I understand what you all mean but it isn't normal to end up projectile vomiting after eating a small amount Confused Sad Confused

No, it's not normal (in the sense that most people don't do it) but it does not mean that there is anything seriously amiss necessarily.
Get her checked out and provided all is well just avoid cheese.
She may well grow out of it as she gets older.
Many more people will have an intolerance to something rather than an allergy.
And it could simply be the texture of cheese rather than the fact that its cheese IYSWIM?
Babies gag reflex is much more pronounced that older children's or adults' and she might just heave when she has a blob of cheese at the back of her throat because of its tenacity etc.

oh I see what you mean Smile I hope IG isn't too serious its horrible swing her so I'll Sad
