exactly, nailpolish - the red/yellow/orange ones being more expensive than the greens. They cost that much at Sainsburys. I buy them in packs of three which reduces the unit cost somewhat.

poisson · 26/07/2006 13:28

tesco value ones often have nbo icky green ones in there
i buy abag of em

nailpolish · 26/07/2006 13:30

cod, i wanted yellow ones specifically for party recipes on sat, so i had to buy them singly @69p each?

UNbelievable

supermarkets preying on mothers like me who try to make a good impression on new neighbours ...

This year, for the first time ever, I bought two pepper plants for £1 each from the local garden centre and put them in a large pot on the patio. They have produced, so far, 4 peppers each and there are more budding. Just thought it would be a bit of fun to see if I could grow anything. All green peppers though nailpolish.

MamaG · 26/07/2006 13:46

I hate green peppers, they are so bitter - well done to you for growing them though!!

sarahhal · 26/07/2006 13:59

Makes my day when I find a bargain bag of peppers without green ones! Sometimes involves lifting up the about six lots of trays to spy one!

Thomcat · 26/07/2006 14:01

1 aubergine is 99p in Sainsburys!

TheBossMan · 26/07/2006 14:02

Bargain Basics Sainsbury's do a bag quite cheap - usually a mix of colours.

I am growing my own too from seed. Have 7 on one plant and 3 on another atm. They are all green at first - they change colour as they ripen.

Greensleeves · 26/07/2006 14:02

Oh god, peppers are disgustingly overpriced they are also central to a lot of my cooking, and I have failed to grow any this year, so Like A F*cking Mug I am forced to pay the outrageous prices. Grunt grumble mumble mutter grumpf.

Pisces · 26/07/2006 14:06

TheBossMan, so if I leave them longer, they will change colour?

MamaG · 26/07/2006 14:09

TheBossMan - who are you?!

blueshoes · 26/07/2006 14:09

The ones from Sainsburys? Never changed colour for me!

apronstrings · 26/07/2006 14:10

the cost of cauliflowers here is outrageous - 3 or 4 dollars!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/07/2006 14:10

THe ones you grow blueshoes.

Greensleeves · 26/07/2006 14:11

Change colour? Thass bollocks.

JackieNo · 26/07/2006 14:11

Only change colour if you leave them to ripen on the plant, I think (might be wrong though...)

chai18 · 26/07/2006 14:25

For cooking I buy frozen ones in Tesco

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/07/2006 16:51

Yes, they do change if you leave them on the plant to ripen. Some dont change colour at all, some do if you leave them longer.

sweetmonkey · 26/07/2006 16:54

I get the basiic ones from sainsburys which you get about 5 in a pack and its only about a pound. whereas their normal ones are 1.50 for 3

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/07/2006 16:57

Those are the ones I get SM. They are just a bit smaller, and funny shapes.
