Ideas for sugar free snacks

We've been gradually realising how bad sugar is and are keen to reduce our intake as much as we can. The trouble is I'm finding it's much easier for dh and I than it is for the dds, especially when it comes to lunch boxes and after school snacks. 90% of our meals I cook fro scratch which I'll try to increase which makes cutting sugar much easier. But we've got into bad habits as we've had loads of sweets and chocolate in the house so obviously the dds want them. We still have loads left but tbh I think I'm just going to get rid of them so they aren't here! What can I replace them with? I don't think going from a sweet after school to carrot and humous is going to go down too well (but they do like it) Does anyone have suggestions of things I could make that would be sugar free that they'd still be excited about? DD1 (7) isn't too bad but DD2 (4) is definitely becoming very attached to sugar Hmm and it needs to stop!
(So sorry for the long ramble!)

Fruit, plain yoghurt with fruit, nuts, dried fruit, crackers with cheese, plain biscuits. I'd urge you not to panic, however. If the rest of your diet is good home-made stuff with plenty of grains and vegetables etc then the occasional sweet, cake or biscuit as an after-school energy-boost is not doing anyone any harm.

Make sugar free biscuits and muffins (which look like they are naughty but aren't!)? These rice crispy cakes are healthier than traditional ones and use honey instead of sugar. Plus very easy to make. These Coconut and oat biscuits are based on the anzac biscuit but not as sweet, using agave syrup.

I'd take a trip to your local health food shop and investigate other forms of sweetener to use in baking.

I haven't tried making any of these yet so I can't vouch for their quality but this blog has some (refined) sugar-free baking ideas. Maybe it would reduce their sugar intake if these were interspersed with normal sugary snacks.

That is what I am intending to do....If I ever get round to it!
